This is getting ridiculous.  To be 100% honest, I don't think it was a lack of hustle at all, I think he wasn't sure where the ball went after he hit it.  When he figured it out, he took off running.  How can this be a lack of hustle?  Pancakes using him as a scapegoat for frustration is terrible.

The media coverage just needs to stop now.  I heard a local sports announcer on a radio station talking about it, and had obviously not even watched the game, and was just reacting to media coverage.  Shame!

Brewers manager Pat Murphy removed rookie Cooper Pratt from last night's game for not hustling. MLB Central reacts to some postgame sound from Milwaukee's skipper.

Did you listen to what he said after the game?  It was that plus not bunting on a ball down the middle in at bat before.  So yeah, sit him.

Just selective discipline from Murphy. Contreras was phoning it in at the plate for months and Murphy did nothing. Murphy holds certain players to wildly different standards and lets players get away with a bunch of crap. Could Sanchez being good to burn a challenge at the plate every time he's in the lineup not be considered a focus/discipline problem? It's late August and nothing has been done to stop that.

If Murphy is going to bench Pratt for a lack of focus, then he should have also benched Lara, Mitchell, Turang, and Chourio for some horrific AB's late in the game.

That's where I don't like it - the double standard.

Sanchez is 4th in batter challenges in MLB despite having 200 fewer ABs than the guys above him, while also having one of the worst success rates.

As far as Pratt taking a strike down the middle in a bunt situation, will he also be benching Mitchell for constantly striking out looking with runners on base?

Okay this is pretty funny. Murphy straight up said the message is for everybody but not everybody has to play the same. That's a really awful soundbite.

I just don't see it when I watched the replay.  He takes a second to look up and find the ball, but he ran hard after that.  Even if he doesn't hesitate he does not make it to second on that.  That was a horrible over reaction decision by Murphy and it cost us the game in extras.

Agreed, it was a split second where he is looking for the ball, then takes off running.  Not a chance in the world he ends up on 2B there, even if running all out from the time he connected with the ball.

The thing is, you just don't see position players pulled from the field or from the bases unless it's something absolutely egregious.  What Pratt did was not anywhere close to egregious even factoring in the bunt pull back the prior at bat.

So you have Murphy with the knee jerk reaction.  If you just had to bench Pratt because he violated some baseball code so badly, you at least wait until in between innings and then send Bunty out to the field.

Bush league move by Murphy the way he handled it.

I mean, he effectively did just bench Chourio today....

He had that soft grounder the other day that the pitcher fumbled.  He hustled at the end and was barely safe.  But he was for sure not hustling out of the box.  Not that he necessarily should have benched him last night, but it wasnt the first time.

Oh, it was just some brief drama, a storyline. Every media source from the pros to the social media DIY'ers need material to milk.

To think -- 5 or so years ago, no one, from the national media to any IGT, wouldn't have cared.  Now you have MLB Network talking about it.

Seems to be if the national media is focusing on something like this, the Brewers have earned their way into the national media discussion.
