One seed doesn’t mean that much to me.   The difference between the the two and three is massive.     I hate Major League Baseball for doing it this way.   Braves brewers or dodgers were going to get penalized and that wasn’t right

How else would you do this with 6 teams making the playoffs?

make the Wild card round 5 games?

Or reduce the number of playoff teams to 5?

4 and 5 play a 3 game series, 3 division winners get a bye… then we go to division round?

Division winners should get rewarded.    It’s already aggravating that we’ve dominate the cubs the last two years and we will have to play them in the playoffs

 

cubs beating us last year or this year would be a crime in my opinion.    At least we deserve a bye.    If I was the Braves I’d be pissed right now.   They’ve basically gotten no reward at all

Brewers better keep on winning themselves to clinch a bye and then the number one seed. 

I wouldn’t count on any help from the Reds in Atlanta this week and it would be nice to have at least the bye wrapped up before the weekend.

I don’t expect the Giants to be much help either against the Dodgers. 

A win tonight would be nice bedore facing a motivated Phillies team that is still hoping to host a wild card series.

We have at least a 5 game lead with 6 to play over the Braves. 

There are 13 independent events happening (7 for us, 6 for them). All we need are 2 of those to go our way, and it's over and done. Assuming a 50-50 situation per game (obviously, they'll be favorites in theirs, but so will we), the odds of not getting it are essentially 1 in 100.

Not getting the bye is not worth worrying about.

MLB has averaged 85.5 playoff games per season during the four years of the current system.

Doubt they go back to a system where the maximum would be 21 with majority of the league playing meaningless games for most of September on account of no more Wild Cards.

Baseball is a Capitalist enterprise and Capitalism requires infinite growth. 

What's most likely once they expand to 32 teams will be an NFL inspired set up featuring two Leagues with four Divisions of four teams each. Ideally they wouldn't water down the playoff field further with a seventh team from each League, but Idealism often runs contrary to Capitalism.

Maybe they'll go back to the 1969 to 1993 format at some point in the future when the coasts are underwater and they have to cut down on the number of teams due to the Mad Max style nomadic gangs terrorizing what's left of the barren wasteland we used to call home.

I, for one, will welcome our Robot Overlords (if that's what it comes to)...

But I think wrapping it up sooner rather than later has benefits in terms of resting pitchers and setting up a rotation for the playoffs.

Also in the AL, the 2, 3 and 6 seeds will all be .500 teams, meaning one of them will HAVE to be in the ALCS, a heartbeat from the world series. 

Meanwhile, Tampa, the Y's and Red Sox have to slug it out on the other side.
