I think you don’t be afraid to go to Lara if Mitchell keeps looking lost, especially vs a lefty

and vaughn for Bauers.  They set this up better for the LHP pitcher than they had last night.

I get being upset Vaughn isn’t getting ABs.

But Lara? Dude was horrible this year and was especially awful the last month of the season. He had a .446 OPS in September. He had 1 multi-hit game in September and 1 extra base hit. For reference, Mitchell has a .432 OPS in this series.

Just really no reason to make that move over 13 PAs. Mitchell is the right call.

I guess I could see it if you get into the 7th or so and you have Tatis, Machado and France as 3 of the 4(likely with Merrill in there)...

But I don't really like that unless you have the lead. We CAN come back. We've proven that and we were SO damn close to doing it again last night, but we can't rely on that. We have to have good ABs early and put pressure on SD.

I'd also love to see an opener for Gasser, but... that's just me.

I can't believe this game is still 4.5 hours away. I am out by 10pm most nights and really feeling last night's binge.

Well gramps just take a nap during the day so you are all rested!

Extra innings maybe? Since you’d have already burned anyone else high leverage.

That or if we had a sizable lead. I mean, why not right?

Yeah, i obviously don't want to play a game 5.  But Im sure the odds say the Brewers have a better shot in a game 5 than tonight.  Cy winner at home is a pretty good combo.  So its far from over if they lose tonight.    That said, this series has me usually stressed, I need it to be over tonight.

I know we have to win THIS series... but this is where if you want to really push the LAD, you can't burn Mis. You need to go out and put your boot on the neck of the Padres and don't let them up.

And for the love of God, make them throw pitches. No 8 pitch first inning. Chourio, more than anyone... his approach can change the series.

Jumping at the 1st pitch, you've got a good chance to get him out. If he's taking or just not extending, you're good. But Mitchell, Turang, they're swinging defensively early in the count. That has to change!

Yeah, extra's would be a spot. But a sizable lead? I don't think so. Our Pen hasn't been abused. Certainly not for a playoff series. We have a Fresh Patrick, Ashby, Megill haven't thrown a ton of pitches.

Murph's right... I don't want to even say the other circumstance, but Gasser struggles early. That'd be  a worst case.

I'm greedy though. I want Mis vs LAD(or maybe ATL).

I think you're probably right, BUT... to me, the process is almost as important at this point.

Lara doesn't look like a scared 21-year-old kid. Mitchell, he looks... a bit scared. Plus, I'm honestly not sure Lara isn't our best defensive option. Not the reason to start him, but I like the ABs Lara has given you.

Lara has ZERO Pop, at least Mitchell has some, when he isn't striking out.

Assuming he only pitches an inning, I don’t see any reason he wouldn’t be good to go on Sunday (I think that is the first day of the NLCS?).

I would just settle for someone swinging at balls in the strike zone.

I was about to say, I’m too old for this. I felt it so hard this morning, but because I love this team, I’ll do it.

That’s just it. If all he does is strikeout, then  he’s power potential doesn’t matter. I’d start him vs a righty, but there’s no reason to keep him in if he constantly strikes out, especially late in the game and a lefty pitcher is in

And he only has 11 home runs on the season so it's not like he's Barry bonds.

Or even a really fast Russell Branyan

I think the old wily manager is trying to get into the head of the Padres.

Right. What else is he going to say?

Stammen said the same thing about King. If Michael King throws again, that's a borderline Mark Prior situation right there.

I hate the Dodgers, but the main reason I want Atlanta to win the other series is so we don’t have anymore west coast games. I’m too old to stay up that late. I’m fading now & the game hasn’t even started yet.

I had the bright idea of drinking a 20 ounce Pepsi at 8:30 last night.   I saw the whole game....and 2/3 of 'Schindler's List" ( because I thought it would put me to sleep).

I’m starting to think I’m not built for postseason baseball honestly. I’ve been debating taking melatonin and waking up to see a win. No shame in admitting this either.

Brilliant 👏

Jeez. I seriously haven’t watched Schindlers List since I saw it in the theater. But you definitely win on being tired, no doubt!!

Fair enough... we're just pretty rigid with giving him rest and all that... Now we're going to put him into that situation?

I don't love it, but... I get leaving the door open.
