Bobby gave up one solid hit and a walk. Not great, but not a catastrophe, and we got out of it.

Ortiz was the only one who seemed nervous to me. Gasser lost one hitter. Contreras challenged a really close pitch trying to help out a young pitcher in his first start

Got a goose egg in the 1st. Not too bad on the pitch count. But a lot of traffic on the bases, which rolls through the batting order.

The Padres were knocking the ball all over the field and Gasser was reeling. You give your pitcher the advantage in that situation because the outcome differential is pretty significant between 1-0 and 0-1. The game theory behind that challenge was solid.

He’s getting too much of the plate for my liking but yeah, didn’t see anything alarming from Gasser there. A lot of soft contact and buckled down with the bases loaded

Have we had anyone try to bunt for a hit? Machado does it and he's a stud. We need guys to play the game smart and be a bit more creative.

Right? He wasn’t the problem. Got Tatis on the first pitch, a hit from Merrill, then an insanely good bunt from Machado. Ortiz should have thrown to first. A walk and pop out.
