That's good to hear. I have argued against putting him on the 40-man roster just to protect him from another positive test but I really hope he succeeds at baseball with the Brewers.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Josh -- I'm sure you cannot divulge details, so I won't ask specifically about JJ. Do you have other clients who have been suspended (for PED or others)? If so, does someone help him with education, rehab, etc? Is that the team's job or something the agent handles?

Otherwise, glad to hear JJ is doing well. If he doesn't know about the site, he should know there are a bunch of die hard Brewers' fans pulling for him to succeed.

Luis Pena signed a 2 year deal with seattle....fyi.
Regarding Luis Pena, 2009 was certainly a lost year due to injury, although I'm not sure I remember exactly what was its nature..

Josh, isn't the two-year deal pretty unique for a non 40-man roster player? Is it based on the fact Pena might miss some or most of 2010 as well?

Who initiated that concept in this case, you or the Mariners? Was it a way for you to say, hey, if you stick by Luis with his rehab, he won't seek to benefit elsewhere in 2011 if the comeback goes really well?

The DDSM website says Pena was added to the 40 man.

Pena isnt on the 40 man and it was done to avoid us job hunting next year. If he gets added to the 40 man this contract obviously is finished and he signs his 40 man contract.

Pena to me seems like the type that'll have a Grant Balfour type career.

He's been awful at times, but with an arm such as his, provided he sticks around, I believe he'll figure it out. Perhaps not to the level that Balfour has, but all the same, he'll be effective and a very late bloomer.

You really won't even pitch in & comment on a guy's velocity? That doesn't seem to have anything to do with whether you represent him or not.
I agree, I don't see that saying, (fill in the blank) was throwing 92-94 last night.

I suppose if the guy looked pretty bad and you're talking about how erratic he was and what not, that may be a little bit inappropriate, but just simple radar readings....can't see how anyone could have a problem with that.

But hey, to each their own. If you don't feel comfortable with something, it's probably best not to do it, regardless of how mundane it may seem.

On that note though, how's Pena looking right now Agent? His velocity still sitting in the 95-97 range and topping out in the triple digits still?

Rehabbing from TJ will be ready for ST. He's a guy that I have grown quite close with over the last few years and I really believe deep down he's a guy that will make it. Sometimes it takes guys longer to reach their potential than others but I really feel he's going to have a long career.

I just dont want to get into any kind of situations with other agents in the event I end up representing player x one day.

Though you sorta have to feel that way, on this one I agree. It's too bad because a player like that NEEDS to move on perhaps, but I would still like him in our organization.

Arms like that come around so rarely, and while he's soooo old now(what is he, 27 now....I say that tongue in cheek) the list of late bloomers is longer than the list of coaches championships.

He's just a guy I've always had a feeling would eventually bust out. Then again, I had the same feeling about Sarfate, so maybe it's best if I lose all confidence in the guyhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif

Anyway, a guy can learn how to pitch. He can't learn how to throw 98.

Busy week for me. I had 4 guys taken in the major league phase of the rule 5 draft today. Now my company has 5 guys on the 25 man roster (as of now) and 13 on the 40 man. Please check my blog, huge story will be out tomorrow. I hope you guys like it.

Thanks to all as usual.

I have to say that Haudricourt's (or whomever's) choice to put a quip in the title is unfortunate. At least in my opinion anyway.
Agreed. Very tasteless headline for a very good article. I don't believe the writer creates the headlines. So I won't blame it on TH.

I've emailed Haudricourt in the past asking about the potential to add Jeffress to the 40-man roster to avoid the potential lifetime ban. Haudricourt said he would have to look into it.

I wish he would have addressed it in the article.

Seems weird that he enjoyed his time in Milwaukee at the rehab center. And then moved back to Brevard County, where, seemingly, he has gotten into trouble in the past...

Title might have been poor taste - but Jeremy does mention "weed" in his quotes, so it kind of flows throughout the article.

Each time, Jeffress told the Brewers he was done with marijuana. They believed him and worked with him to get past the problem by placing him in rehab centers, only to be betrayed.
Betrayed? Really? That seems a bit dramatic.

As soon as I read that I came hear to rip the headline as well. How tacky and unprofessional, but yeah, Haudricourt is probably not responsible for that.
