It really IS time to move on but, gosh dang it.....that was seriously depressing yesterday. Man. Its games like that which really keep us out of the hunt.

What is "Expected Record" in the ESPN Stat Pack? They have the Crew's Expected Record at 43-38.

Whatever it is, it sounds nice. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Expected record is the projected record of a team based on stats such as runs scored and runs allowed. I'm not sure of the exact formula

That's their Pythagenport Record, it takes RS and RA into effect, since the Brewers have outscored their opponents this season, they should have a winning record, based solely on that.

There's an old article at BP about it here: www.baseballprospectus.co...cleid=1019

The paper made Olsen sound fairly nasty this morning. Heater which touches 95 from the left side, hard slider, and attempting to master a changeup.

It will probably be another Helms at 1B day.

Sheets is cursed. He'll be lucky to get two runs tonight, assuming this Olsen kid is as nasty as I've heard he is.

The AP copy on the roster move says Branyan isn't in the lineup tonight. I don't think any of us thought he would be, but I wanted to make that clear for those who were wondering.

Wearing my heart on my sleeve since birth. Hopefully, it's my only crime.

Thanks for the link.

It's too bad... a 43-38 record right now would put us second behind Atlanta in the Wild Card race.

(So maybe we're due for a run of good luck.)

I'm calling a six-hit shutout for Sheeter tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

The way we hit against rookie pitchers, I can see Olsen out doing Sheets tonight and going a good 6-7 innings with 7-8 K's. Sheets needs his curveball big time tonight otherwise Cabrera and Delgado will crush his fast ball.

Absolutely brutal.

1-4: brutal in a good way.

5-9: brutal in a not-so-good way.

Sounds like a hammer-curve-lacking George of the Roses.

Second career start? Good for 2 runs given up or less against the Crew. Take the under, whatever it is.

SCOTT OLSEN:

He's only 21 and he does indeed have great stuff, but Olsen's ERA is a little deceiving. He's only made two appearances (one start) and he's given up two home runs and a 772 opponent OPS. On the other hand, he has fanned eight in seven innings. He's bound to have some trouble adjusting to the big leagues, I think, although he's certainly a grade-A prospect.

Baseball America rated him the Marlins' second best prospect before the season and also indicated that he has the best slider in their system. He was drafted in the sixth round out of an Illinois high school in 2002 and has advanced very quickly. He spent 2002 in the Gulf Coast League, 2003 in the Sally League, and 2004 in the Florida State League. This year he opened the season with the Carolina Mudcats in the Southern League and went 6-4 with a 3.92 ERA and 94-27 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 80.1 innings before being recalled.

He's never pitched in Triple-A.

Let's go Brew-ers!

If Helms was batting 7th or 8th it wouldn't be as bad. What is brutal is having a career .739 OPS player batting 5th (Sad thing is, no one below is any better). He also has hands of stone at 3rd. If I were Pierre, I would leadoff the game with a bunt down the 3rd base line.

How is Helms brutal? He's hitting .287 for goodness sake.

To be honest, I thought about putting him in the 'brutal i a good way' category. But then, I remembered that I just flat out don't like the guy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/grin.gif I've got a bias. For goodness sake.

He could be hitting .320 and I'd be indifferent.

Quote (brewers19):

I think this Olsen character graduated from my high school; the local newspaper does an article about him every time he pitches.

He went to Crystal Lake South HS in Lake In The Hills, Illinois. There is a lot of coverage of him on McHenryCountySports.com.

I think Yost finally determined Jenkins hits lefties poorly while Magruder can only hit right handed (ok that last part not really but sooner or later someone has to).

I'm complaining about the lineup because the bottom four guys suck. I understand that there's nothing we can really do about it right now, but that doesn't change the fact that the lineup sucks.
