I've definitely dipped and chewed and the like and I enjoyed it way too much. A really filthy habit. There's nothing good to be said about something that heavily involves spitting and cancer.

The stuff absolutely grosses me out, but some swear by it. If I had a vote for you, I'd say it's pretty clearly the better choice to avoid it, but it's obviously not illegal.

I'm partial to Grizzly mint when I chew, because the name brands have gotten way too expensive. The stuff's just really bad for your teeth and mouth, though. Still, if you're a smoker, most doctors will say that if you're going to do one or the other, it's better to chew than smoke.

I tried it when I was a freshman in high school. So did a friend of mine who shared a gym class and an immediately following study hall. We chewed while in gym class - it was just long distance jogging all class and we could spit wherever. Then once study hall came around, we had soda cans to spit in. I stopped after gym. My friend didn't. He got sick in study hall and puked all over the classroom and ran down the hall puking. It was awesome.

I haven't chewed since. It was gross and I didn't see the point.

working as a carpenter while going to school, i started to dip more or less because everyone one was. Well one day i put a dip in after class, it was about 90 degrees and i was driving back to madison from Whitewater in a truck with no air conditioning. Well when i got home i was so nautious and had the chills all night long. From now on if i get a wiff of chew i get a sick feeling in my stomache

When I was playing baseball, chew was everywhere despite it not being allowed in college. I dipped on occasion, but I'm a major sunflower seed guy.

The thing with chew is the buzz it gives you and to some it's quite addicting. I know some people who walk around with a loaded lip all day and are at the point where they don't spit. I don't know how they do that.

There was about 5 or 6 people in my welding class that would chew. A couple used those pouches or diapers as the the others jokingly called them.

One guy could pack a new can open it and put in half the can at a time and spit very little throughout the day. The two that used pouches would get very naucious and get the buzz and just lie down in the classroom or on the bench. I never could see why anyone would like the stuff in either form.

I tried the pouches only twice the first time I bit open the pouch and swolled about half it before I found out that's not what you do Luckily I was outside so I was able to puke all over the grass I was not feeling well at all for the rest of the day. I tried again this time not breaking the pouch open and I still got sick not as bad though.

The husband of one of my girl friend's chews and agrees that it's very addicting. I've actually tried it once. I guess I did because I thought "well ball players do this and I love baseball so why not try it." Yea it was a dumb reason, but I was in high school and thought I should try everything once. It burned so bad. I immeaditely spit it out and started pouring water in my mouth. It still makes me sick to even see someone do it.

I like to have a cigar when I tailgate and on the occasional summer evening on my deck.

Also, while we are discussing chewing tobacco, has anyone ever tried the leafy chaw that gives you the "jawbreaker" cheeks?

That was much rarer in the dugout because it was a lot more obvious when you were using. I tried Red Man twice and I mixed it with Bazooka. I did it that way because the gum held the chaw together.

A great friend and co-worker of mine likes to chew. In fact he chews at his desk at work. However, people complained and now he can't chew at his desk anymore. Even though I don't chew, I don't see who he was harming. It doesn't smell and there's no second hand smoke as well.

I got another friend who works somewhere else and he can no longer chew at his desk. Now he just leaves the office and takes smoke breaks. Wouldn't the company be better off letting him chew at his desk and do his work?

I've only chewed a handful of times, and I've had both good and bad experiences. The bad experiences almost made me throw up, but the good experiences were pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of it due to the fact that it is pretty disgusting, but in certain circumstances, chewing can be quite fun. If I ever chew again, it will almost certainly be while I am doing some sort of outdoor activity. Chewing indoors to me is just wrong.

Times I enjoyed chewing: playing softball, golfing, fishing.

Times I almost hurled: Coming home from a houseparty, already trashed; when I accidentally took a sip out of a beer can full of tobacco spit...I still shudder thinking about that

You would think so.

Are the co-workers put off by a spit cup or something? I wouldn't have a problem with him chewing.

I used to work with someone that would do the same thing. Personally I do think that it does stink. He used to always have his door closed and when I'd go in I'd almost barf just getting a whiff of the stuff. Though other than that it didn't really bother me all that much. I mean I fart in my office all the time and its probably just as offensive if not worse.

I don't chew hardly ever. But if I go camping (which is rare) I'll bring some for sitting around the campfire. Nice buzz, tastes OK. But not something I would do day to day.

What's the difference between Red Man and the chew that comes in a tin?

Redman looks like shredded meat. I am sure Harvey indulged in Redman --

I think the tin recommended serving size is "a pinch" -- Redman the serving size is "one ice-cream scoop".

I would advise taking the money that you would spend on chewing tobacco and spend it on a good pair of running shoes. You get a terrific buzz without the mouth cancer.

I like to chew, though I agree it is kinda gross for others to see. I love playing golf with a dip in, slow pitch softball too. The first time I chewed I had it in for about 10 mins before I started getting dizzy/nauseous. I don't chew every day but really do enjoy it when I'm outdoors. I don't get the people that "gut" their chew spit, seems like an easy way to get stomach/throat cancer.

Oh and I think a lot of us can attest that drinking a spitter is not pleasant. I got a full mouth of used chaw once (ugh).

Even though i dont chew anymore, there is no way i would equate the buzz from chewing to running, granted i am 6'1 250 and built more like a linebacker then a runner. Me and running never got along.

Ah leave it to BF.net to have a topic and everyone say how wrong it is and what they should do. I have dipped on and off for about 6 years. Why did I do it I don't know. However, it does give you a little buzz and now with all the flavors actually can be very enjoyable to have while killing time. I have also tried Red Man but that stuff can make your mouth water so much you really need to spit a lot, although the flavor of it is much more intense. I have noticed however lately that more people are chewing and dipping as opposed to smoking. Seems like just about every college guys I see out at a bar has a plastic cup with a napkin in it.

When I was in college I loved the cinnamon tobacco pouches (Skoal?) but I have not seen them in a long time. They were very effective in helping me stay awake on long drives or while doing a boatload of work/papers at one time. Does anyone know if these are still around?
