Come on man. Putting Cortes and Owen Miller in the same sentence as dime a dozen guys just isn't it. Cortes had comparable numbers last year to Max Fried.
If Cortes pitches to his career norms and the Brewers underperform as a team, he will bring back a favorable haul at the deadline.
If he pitches to his career norms+ and the Brewers hold him for the season, he is a QO candidate and could bring back a 1st Rd+ 2026 pick.
Also, imagine if the Brewers can find a little more of that pitcher's pixie dust for him that they always seem to have?
The breadsticks are almost always a lower shelf item which is below a straight arm reach for a 5'6 human. So, wrong.
Also, if Cortes brings a Suter like stability to the clubhouse (as you are inferring) to go along with his Top 30 SP recent stats ... this is an enormous home run of a trade.
.396 OBP at AAA last year for Durbin. Initial thoughts on the trade is we improved... is Durbin our new SS? I would hesitate to move Turang off of 2nd after being named the best defender in baseball.
Durbin is 5'6. Altuve like.
I realize the ability to shuttle a guy is ever important, but I don't think S Smith was in our top 30 prior ... so in terms of prospects, according to pipeline, we improved.
Based off of Rule 5 history the likelihood is high he gets returned to us at some point this year. A non top 30 prospect ... I get the annoyance of losing him but my guess is we are simply loaning him to someone else to use for a few months for $50k.
Does anyone have any strong predictions for Brewers activity at the Winter meetings?
I'm assuming we will sign the usual 2-4 "invite to spring training" guys. I'm sure Arnold has another surprise 'no name bullpen signing that will end up pitching big innings for us' up his sleeve..
I'd be stunned if he is being considered for the big league roster before 2027. Chourio was the fastest positional ascension we've seen in our minor leagues and he spent 2 full seasons playing in the states before breaking camp with us last year.
Made hasn't played on American soil yet.
Garcia is exactly the kind of guy we want our staff getting their hands on. Who know if it works out but 25yo and a minor league deal .. I hope we sign 40 more of these kinds of deals/players.
I think this is a great spot for it and thank you. This is always a list I try to dig up at some point every spring.
Is there a resource that let's us know how many NRI make the big league team every year? I feel like we have to be high on the list of "most" or "most often".
Much like the Packers and UFAs ... if you are a fringe guy looking for an opportunity - specifically bullpen guys, I feel like Milwaukee has proven to give those guys every chance to prove themselves.
I'm assuming there is a big financial crunch until the Adames situation is resolved. They just offered him and he will turn it down ... but the Brewers can't really assign that money elsewhere until he is gone. So I think we are in a bit of a holding pattern to spend anything until that happens, hopefully sooner than later.
Until then, need to scrape a few dollars together to sign a few options if they come up ... which might explain a few of these recent moves.
