    No doubt it stinks, was just trying to provide some perspective. I’d love to have had two better options than Pannone (who I actually thought pitched OK given the circumstances) and Bush last night, but having five reliable bullpen arms is already two or three more than many teams have so I’m not sure how realistic that is.

    This was the Brewers 1st loss scoring 7 or more runs this year. Not quite 99.9%, but 16-1 comes in at 94.1%.

    The Brewers bullpen lost their 10th game tonight, fewest in the majors. Entering the game Brewers relievers had the highest Win Probability Added in baseball. CC’s bullpen usage has lead to the Brewers being the best team so far this season at not blowing winnable games. But it’s a long season and guys can’t pitch every single game, sometimes they need a rest.

    Yeah, rough night on the farm for sure. Few bright spots for Biloxi, Tyler Black (2-4, 2B), Jeferson Quero (3-4) and Felix Valerio (2-3). Down in Carolina Jadher Areinamo went 2-3 with a double, but was lifted for a PH in his final plate appearance. Wisco had Ernesto Martinez (1-3, HR) and Ben Metzinger (2-3, 2B) with the only real pop while Ryan Brady threw four scoreless with 4 K and only 2 H to drop his ERA down to 2.76 over 49 frames.

    Wow, stark indeed… RHP: 207 PA of 290/456/581 LHP: 62 PA of 212/339/308 But, just because LHP splits in particular are small sample size theatre by physiology, here is last year… RHP: 201 PA of 273/398/412 LHP: 82 PA of 303/427/455 I think Hiura, Frelick and trade deadline acquisition(s) will get first crack at solving the offense’s WOAHs, but barring how that all plays out I wouldn’t be surprised to see Black sometime in Aug/Sep, even if only as a DH vs RHP. Will be interesting to see if they maybe start giving him some innings at 1B.

    Biloxi up 4-3 bottom of 6th. Tyler Black triple and two RBI the big news while Chourio (1-2, BB) and Ethan Murray (0-0, 2 BB) have each reached twice.

    Nashville currently up 2-1 bottom 5th. Frelick 1-2 so far, Hiura 2-2, Cam Devanney bomb and Tyrone Taylor assist from RF to 3B (WHAT?!?!?) are the box highlights so far.

    Carolina and both DSL squads lose with just one run scored each. Yophery Rodriguez (2-4, 2B) and Filippo Di Turi (2-4) with the lone multi hit games. Eric Prado threw a scoreless DSL frame dropping his ERA to 1.35 over 13.1 IP with 13 K | 3 BB so far for the 17 year old.

    2016: 1st MIF selected round 8, pick 231 (Francisco Thomas) 2017: Hiura drafted round 1, pick 9 (wasn't projected as a weak hitting middle IF), next MIF drafted was round 6, pick 174 (Devin Hairston) 2018: Brice Turang drafted round 1, pick 21 (is weak hitting, but has made MLB on the strength of his defense), next MIF drafted was round 12, pick 365 (Korry Howell) 2019: 1st MIF selected round 8. pick 253 (David Hamilton) traded for Renfroe, has made MLB with Red Sox 2020: 1st MIF selected round 2, pick 53 (Freddy Zamora, currently in AA) also drafted Hayden Cantrelle round 5, pick 151 2021: First MIF selected round 2, pick 33 (Tyler Black, announced as 2B, currently 3B tearing up Biloxi), next MIF round 5, pick 147 Ethan Murray 2022: EBJ (r1, p27), Robert Moore (r2, p72) and Dylan O'Rae (r3, p102) picked as MIF in the early rounds. The only high picks Stearns & company used on weak hitting middle infielders prior to 2022 were Turang in 2018 and Zamora in 2020. Hiura and Black were both drafted for their bats. I wouldn't qualify any of the others as high picks.

    I too have no idea either, but I kind of think so. Sticking with Tampa Bay here are their results on each batted ball type and on pulled balls compared to the Brewers... Line Drives TBR: 380 PA | 417 wRC+ MIL: 339 PA | 372 wRC+ Ground Balls TBR: 863 PA | 70 wRC+ MIL: 819 PA | 11 wRC+ Fly Balls TBR: 803 PA | 158 wRC+ MIL: 670 PA | 133 wRC+ Pulled TBR: 831 PA | 203 wRC+ MIL: 710 PA | 129 wRC+ The Rays are outperforming league average results on all three batted ball types, which to me indicates the approach numbers you posted are leading them to swinging at better pitches to get those results. Their 70 wRC+ on ground balls is waaay ahead of second best team, the Braves at 52 wRC+. They have a similar gap on line drives with second place 23% behind at a 394 wRC+. Their 203 wRC+ on pulled balls is 2nd and their 158 wRC+ on fly balls is 4th. The Brewers conversely are below league average on both grounders and fly balls with their 11 wRC+ on grounders second to last. Their 129 wRC+ on pulled balls is dead last. The only batted ball type they are above average is line drives, but they have been hitting them with the second worst frequency in MLB. Obviously there are a lot of moving pieces, but an abundance of weakly hit ground balls and a paucity of line drives/pulled fly balls doesn't seem like the ideal way to go about generating offense.

    For DSL arms I pretty much just keep an eye on age, K/BB ratio and what kind of role or promotion schedule the development staff has lined up for them to read between the lines. Don’t really start to get more detailed reports on stuff or footage until they get to the AZ or Carolina.
