  1. Holmes has been solid, 3.42 era in 50 innings 50/10 k/bb, 2.93 FIP. My guess is Holmes wouldn't be cheap (not crazy value either). I did like what I saw the game we played them as well. I don't know if I posted this before but what about Sandy Alcantara? The Marlins have Eury Perez, Alcantara, Luzardo, Braxton Garrett, and Ryan Weathers on the 60 man (some out all year). My guess is that the price would be high but Alcantara is one I would pony up for even coming off his injury. Would Black, Mitchell/Perkins, and like Peguero or pitching prospect be to much/little. He has 3 affordable years of control. It would be nice to add a controllable top of the rotation arm at the top of the rotation, especially an anchor like Alcantara.
  2. I would send both up and just be done with Bauers, I get that Bauer bring some value with the glove but he just doesn't hit enough. If there is a nice lefty vet 1B option to sign I wouldn't mind picking them up either but it depends on who that is. If you make me just chose between the two I will go Black because of the versatility but I won't be upset if we finally give Hicklen his long overdue chance.
  3. For me, it will come down to the playoffs on the Montas trade. We have been great since acquiring him but really it is that the rest of the division is struggling. We have seen a better version of Frankie and if we can get even 1 good start from him in the playoffs the addition of Weimer will be passable.
  4. I will start I suppose. Here is my top 5 1)Manny Rodriguez To have the success that he has had as an 18 year old without massive stuff in A ball is impressive. If he can add a mph or two each year he could be a major prosect come 2026 or so. From what I read it seems like he is the classic mlb "bulldog" pitcher already. 2)Quinton Low Quinton Low was probably the prospect I was most excited to see last year. He probably won't be a 2 way player after missing this year but the upside of his stuff, especially as a reliever is tantalizing. Hopefully we get him fully healthy and on track next year. 3)Nick Merkel At 6'7' 255, it is understandable that he might take a bit longer than some. It just seems like every time he is mentioned he gets the job done. His k rates are solid and suggests there is upside (anyone know how hard he throws). 4)Yorman Galindez There are probly 3/4 other young arms in Carolina that I could put here but 64 k's in 40 innings gets my attention. I know he has a really good curve and can still fill out some to add to the heater. 5)Ernesto Martinez I feel like he is a guy like Garrett Cooper who won't quite get a chance with us and when he does with another team he will shine. He is super athletic for 6'6' and playing well for a AA team struggling to hit. Maybe he erupts with a move to more friendly confines next year. He could easily be a 20/20 or better candidate when it all comes together.
  5. I thought this might be a nice place to discuss prospects that don't appear in any major top 30 style publications that might have some big upside. I feel like we for sure have a couple more Tobias Myers in the system who come out of no where and stun the scouting community. I don't mind discussing guys like Jadher Arienamo or KC Hunt who are in starting to be in most top 30 list but I'd prefer to keep it to the deeper cuts.
  6. He will have finished in the top 8 in the CY Young 5 years in a row. Gerrit Cole was top 5 3 of 5 years (no wins) and a couple years younger. Cole got $36 million per year, take a couple years of and 7/252 is probably a starting point.
  7. It would be great to see a Trent Grisham style turn around for Hedbert. He seems to be on the right path with those huge EV bombs recemtly.
  8. I love those slow-mo's of Yoho, I am being persuaded quickly that he needs a September call-up. Can Yeli go on the 60 day to save a roster spot. I don't mind losing Tyler Jay or Vinny Capra off the 40 man though.
  9. Montas at 97/98 early on, he could really be huge for us if he can live there. Good lord is our pitching coaching staff amazing,
  10. I like Mears stuff but he just hits to much of the plate in the wrong counts. I still think he is a guy Hook and company can turn into a dude. I like the idea of bringing Ashby up, we can see him a couple time before September callups and that might help us know if Misi and/or Yoho come up depending on how well he does.
  11. I say no, for a different organization sure but we so much pitching depth for 2026 and beyond. If he is pitching well maybe by this time next year it will be more clear and less risky. I wouldnt be signing any short team starter unless thy are on near minimum deals. I would probably just wait, maybe someone goes unsigned like Lorenzen and Clevinger did this year and take dirt cheap deals.
  12. When you look for comp. and the only guys are the goats of various era your doing pretty well.
  13. For future reference, is it possible for a player just drafted like Payne to go to the DSL? With rookie ball being pretty much impossible for the rookies it could be smart to get HS kids who haven't played for a while some reps even if it is in the DSL. Or is there a rule against it?
  14. 1)Devin to Dback for P Yilber Diaz, INF Demetrio Crisantes and Comp pick 2) Hoby to Toronto P Mason Fluharty 3)Joel Payamps to SF for OF Jonah Cox 4) Aaron Civale and Bryse Wilson to San Diego for P Isiah Lowe and 1B Romeo Sanabria Sign Yoan Moncada 1/4 w/incentuves and Shane Bieber 2/28 (10 in 2025, 18 2026) 1) LF Frelick/2B Turang 2) RF Chourio 3) DH Yeli 4) C Contreras 5) CF Mitchell 6) 1B Hoskins 7)3B Black 8)SS Ortiz 9) Frelick/Turang Bench) Haase (resign), OF Perkins, IF Moncada, Mone/Collins/Brewer/minor league contract add Peralta, Woody, Rea, Myers, Patrick/Henderson/Misi/CarRod/Yilber Diaz eventually Beiber Megill, Huddy, Koenig, Peguero, Yoho, Mears, Paredes, Hall, Bauk/Herget/Zas/Fluharty/Uribe?/Ashby/Jay/minor league FA We trade a lot away but we have plenty of bullpen depth and lots of guys who could step up Middendorf, Chirinos, Yeager, others. We get 3 solid pieces for Devin and 4 upside prospect for the "extra depth" we have built on our pitching side. There is a rotation spot up for grabs for our young arms and there should be solid depth across our minor league system.
  15. I was going to mention Moncada, he could be a nice platoon 3rd/utility player with Black. I would go after him if he is under say 5 million. How much would a Shane Beiber 2 year deal cost something like Tyler Mahle 2/22 or a bit more because of track record? Getting a guy like Beiber half way through next year could be big and with Woody, Rea, and Civale free agents after the year it would be nice to have a top of the rotation vet under control for 2026. I like Devin to the Yanks but I really like getting the comp a for a throw in with the Burnes trade and kind of want to do that again. I can't find who will get those but maybe a team like the Dbacks would give us 2 solid prospects and a comp a pick of they have it.
  16. I can't see how this would pass any kind of vote. Maybe make it that starters need to throw 75 pitches or something. I really hate the idea of penalizing the team that has to pull a pitcher. If a starter has given up say 6 runs through 3 innings and the team pulls the dh, how does that make the game more exciting. The league should continue to look at more small tweaks to improve balls in play. I like the idea of making the mound like 6 inches further back and making the playe like an inch wider (especially whenever electronic ump get here). Less walks and more hits, I can't think those would be be big enough to ruin anything.
  17. Rhys will make 18 next year not 22. He only gets the 4 million if he opts out. If he opts in 18 will be his salary and the for the buyout is void because we don't have to buy him out. I am alright with Black getting a majority at 3rd. If he can't do it defensively we should know after a month or so. We then have Dunn, Mone, Collins who could get a shot. By mid-season I would hope on of Wilken or Boeve would be ready as well. If Black struggles at 3rd I would think the Bauers role for the rest of the year would be fine. I am on the trade Devin side of things. To save money we can probably trade a couple of Hoby, Bryse, and Payamps. Our bullpen depth is so massive and that's before adding the usual 2-3 under the radar adds. I fully expect Yoho to be solid and don't forget about Abner Uribe if he is healthy. I like DL Hall as the Bryse Wilson multi-inning/6th starter next year.
  18. I agree he would be a great add and I have no idea why the Dodgers cut bait.
  19. I doubt he becomes an ace but his breaking ball can give him some great upside. I think there is a high likelihood of a 4/5 starter with some #3 upside. I think maybe like Bryce Wilson with a better breaking pitch.
  20. Great win, after a disaster of a 1st especially not scoring with bases load and no outs. This team has some major grit to it.
  21. I love Made and Pena I just don't like putting guys in the Dominican league that high up. Give me a couple solid weeks in Carolina and top 100 it is. Our top 4 Quero, Misi, Pratt, Black all are probably 40-75 prospects and then there is a pretty decent gap to like Yophery, Henderson, Adams, Boeve, Bitoni, Wilken, Made, Pena etc who are maybe borderline top 150-200 (in my opinion) but where our organization is better than any other club is from like 5-25, even 25-50 is probably top in the league. Look at our 16-20 Lara, Made, Wichrowski, Letson, Yoho (on mlb.com) vs. the top systems Mariners, Cleveland, Tampa, Balt., Minny. Our guys are way better, and then think we have guys like Adamchecski, Ortuna, Anderson who aren't on any big publications radar as like 30-40 prospects. I bet a guy like Ernesto Martinez who probably ranks about 45-50 on our systems ranking would be a top 20 prospect for a bunch of teams.
  22. I agree, if we are serious about making a playoff run a big part will be on the bullpen. Both of these guys have an unhittable vibe. I would rather have them than Hoby. Civale, Montas, Ross, even Bryce Wilson. If only one go with Yoho because of the accuracy. Dont forget about Carlos Rodriguez, he probably isn't a reliever option but could deserve a start or two down the stretch. That is if Hall isn't it and we still don't give Chad Patrick a look.
  23. Both Turang and Ortiz were perceived as plus SS defensively. For me, it makes sense to keep Turang at second because then you have a plus SS and Gold glove 2B. Where if Turang is SS than you have an average 3B and plus SS. You could move Turang to short and Ortiz to 2B but that is a bit risky making 2 position changes. Basically Turang's defense is to valuable to risk making a move. On top of that putting Ortiz at SS and 2B leaves 3rd open. Black, Boeve, and Wilken all could be the 3rd baseman of the future where our better 2B options are really in A ball (unless you are exceptionally high on Isaac Collins).
  24. Devin for Smith is the start of an interesting trade. I would probably want a couple interesting prospect in case Smith would be a flop. To be honest I would prefer Justin Foscue to Smith but Foscue is very much like Tyler Black that the bat should be good but where will he play.
