Trade Wolf or Narvy and sign Oswalt? It doesn't make much sense to me.

I was drooling over this idea a couple days ago. It wouldn't be fair having 5 starters who finished 2011 with an ERA in the 3's to go with one of the best 8-9 combinations in baseball.

Karl Ravech was just throwing out random team names. He has since mentioned three more teams, so I don't think he has any idea where the offers to Oswalt have come from.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

It doesn't seem like a rational signing, but I like the idea of it nonetheless. He'd be an improvement on Narveson, albeit much more expensive, assuming he's healthy. . . . Then again, if this came true, it would put Narveson -- a lefty -- into the 'pen, which some people seem to be concerned about.

Brewers need to be careful with their money with the payroll already over $100 million per the Brewers blog at MJS.... vs a projected budget of low $90's ....Mark A is obviously very loose with the purse-strings......

What would of been the odds, say 5 years ago, that the Brewers would have a higher payroll than the Braves? and by a lot ($90 vs $100)

Wolf? Heck I'd sign Oswalt and trade Marcum. Sure he's got back issues, but he's looking for short term and Oswalt's never thrown up all over himself in the postseason. The Brewers have guys capable of filling in if he needs a month on the DL to be ready for a stretch drive.

As much as i hate to say it, that would be an improvement. I love marcum, but just think... he could net a lawrie type prospect and hes most likely gone next year anyways. though i would lean much more toward trading wolf. He is the ULTIMATE sell high right now and it seems like everyone is ignoring that, the guy had what will likely be the best season he will have until he retires and there are plenty of teams looking for an established lefty. It just makes sense, it will also be a big payroll relief.

If we could get a Lawrie-type prospect for Marcum, I would think the Brewers would have already pulled the trigger. The reason they were willing to trade Lawrie last year was because Marcum had two years of control. And Lawrie's value has only gone up since then. And I highly doubt Wolf would bring much in a trade, for basically the same reason (though 1 year with an option but old and expensive). Guys with only 1 year left on their contracts usually bring in better hauls at the deadline anyway when teams are in a better position to judge how close they are to making a run.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Oswalt makes no sense for the Brewers whatsoever. He will be compensated handsomely by someone and due to his age/injury history is a risk. I fully expect him to sign with the Cardinals. It makes more sense for them, and just seems like a natural move for them.

I think the talk is that he wants to be as close to Mississippi as possible, so StL makes much more sense than the Brewers, outside of the obvious problem of the finances.

Maybe the Twins then or the LaCrosse Loggers!

Ok, I'll bite. Why the Mississippi?

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

That makes sense. Wasn't really thinking clearly after a long day in airports... ugh

Supposedly now that the Red Sox have shed Scutaro's salary they are going hard after Oswalt.
Good fit. The type of team with about 12 starting pitchers who could all be #1 or #2 types but who seem to go back and forth on a yearly basis and pitch down to 4 or 5 type starters.

Obviously Hyperbole, but the Sox seem like a good fit. They've got the depth that they can afford him getting 25 starts for 22 over the next 2 whereas we just simply can't.

Prior to the off-season it may not have sounded that bad, but not that they're already around where I thought they'd be payroll wise(actually a little ahead, I thought they'd top out at 100 this year and it looks as though their budget has to be 103-104) I just don't see any logical trade here.

I'd give up Wolf in a hearbeat for Oswalt, but so would any other team...so...they might as well just sign Oswalt rather than deal with the 15 or so million we still owe Wolf.

Hah! So... the anti-Dave Duncan/Cardinals effect? Nice.

That's interesting. I'd have to imagine there is enough of a market for him that the Brewers won't get him at "their price", but still interesting.
