I think people forget about the time before RT was big. Michael Bay was hated by a lot of critics while Armageddon and Transformers movies were big hits.

If anything I'd say that critics and audiences are closer than ever, with a few notable exceptions. When was the last time a big hit wasn't favorably reviewed? 

Plus, critics and audiences are often looking for different things. Critics are often looking for originality and pushing the form. Audiences often just want to be entertained.

Rebel Ridge (Netflix) - Reacher meets Rambo. Thumbs up.

Land of Bad (Netflix) - throwback action movie. Modern version of Rescue Dawn with more explosions, death, and less plot. I liked it.

Back to my DVD purge:

Bohemian Rhapsody - I want to dump this one, but I don't.  I'll keep it for now, but I can see this one leaving the collection someday.

Bone Tomahawk - Deeply disturbing.  Goner

Bonnie and Clyde -   I'm not much of an old movie guy, but this one I remember watching as a kid, and it sticks.  Keeper

The Jason Bourne Movie Collection - Good action packed flicks, but no need to watch again. Gone, all of them.

Bowfinger - Decent and entertaining, but no need to see it ever again.  Goner

Joker: Folie à Deux’

Yes, I read the reviews and I ignored them like always.

Just a horrible movie.  All the singing was completely out of place, and the movie just sucked.  Loved the first one, but this was a total waste of time and money.

Saturday Night

Was a good watch, but I felt anxious the entire movie.  lol  Even though I knew it was all going to work out in the end, it still had me feeling uneasy throughout.

Is it a must-see?  Nope, but still enjoyed it.

I didn't see it but it's such a disappointment. Why they felt the need to do something so drastic with such a good story they had going, IDK. Just sucks.

The Box - Good concept, but falls flat.  Can't believe this was ever in my collection to begin with.  Gone!

I may be in the minority, but this movie was just ok.  My wife and I went, and I really thought this was right up her alley, but she said the same thing, it was ok.

Latest DVD Purge:

Boyz N the Hood:  Just a great all around movie.  Such a 90's feel, and Ice Cube is great in this one.  Keeper!

Breakfast Club: One of my favorite all time movies and still holds up.  Just a great movie, and for anyone that was in high school in the 80's, that is the bonus plan!  TOTAL Keeper!

 

I really thought I'd be dumping more movies, but seem to be keeping the majority.

My wife and I went to The Best Christmas Pageant Ever today.

Nice little feel good flick with a bit of A Christmas Story Vibe to it.

Elevation

Really liked this one, but I'm a huge fan of post-apocalypse movies.  Has some original twists and turns, and since it's advertised, it isn't a spoiler, the people are safe as long as they stay above 8000 feet elevation.

Glad I took a chance on this one!

DVD Purge:

-Getting close to the end of my "B" movies...

The Brave One - This is a good flick, couldn't remember anything about it until I watched it, so I thought it might be a goner, but nope, keeping it.

Bridesmaids - This movie had a ton of truly laugh out loud moments.  I didn't remember it being this damn funny!  Keeper.

Bull Durham - One of my top 3 favorite baseball movies of all time!  Great movie from start to finish, just an absolute classic!  KEEPER!

Bruce Almighty - Cute little movie, has some pretty funny parts, but nothing I need to see again.  Goes against my "never dump a Jennifer Aniston movie rule" but it's just not good enough to keep.  Goner.

Brooklyn's Finest - This isn't a bad movie at all, and there is a lot of build-up between the 3 stories that lead to the chaotic ending.  I like the movie, but don't need it in the collection.  Goner.

Butterfly Effect - Another movie that is pretty good, and worth seeing, but just not keeper worthy.  Goner

Caddyshack - One of my favorite movies of all time, chock full of classic scenes and lines. If you have never seen it, I feel bad for you, seriously.  KEEPER x 10!

Cannonball Run - Cheesy ensemble movie from 1981 that was a huge hit but just doesn't cut it imo.  The only saving grace is that Farrah Fawcett is in it, looking as beautiful as ever!  She alone almost made me keep it, but she just wasn't enough...  Goner

Casino - Great movie, and at times, brutal as hell!  Keeper.

Can't Buy Me Love(1987) - Classic 80's teen movie!  Keeper

Can't Hardly Wait(1998) - 90's teen movie pretty much copying the 80's teen movies...  Still a funny watch.  keeper

Carny(1980) - A VERY young Jodie Foster.  Decent movie all the way through, then the ending hits, and you are left feeling cheated. Goner

Casual Sex - Found myself laughing at this movie far more than I expected.  Kept it.

Casualties of War - Disturbing movie, and if this stuff really happens, shame on the human race.  Kept it.

Castaway - Slow beginning, but still a good flick.  Kept.

Closer - Not a good movie, all over the place, just kind of weird.  Natalie Portman as a stripper almost worth the keep, but nah...  Goner!
