Watched Carry On (not a new release) and it was great until the ending. Honestly the ending kind of pissed me off and ruined an otherwise excellent movie.

Just as everyone has said, Project Hail Mary is good

This is probably the only book I've read in the last 10 years (well, I listened to the Audiobook, but still).

Can't wait to see it and glad the reviews have been so positive.

Milwaukee Film Festival is coming in April.

Filmfest is opening up with a Uecker documentary with, apparently, behind the scenes access from 2024.

I am lucky enough to be seeing it tomorrow

I read the book and the movie is a pretty faithful adaptation.

In the post show conversation, the editor (I forget his name) said he felt like he'd fine a great job with his first cut in narrowing things down.... And it was five hours long. I'm sure plenty of Brewers fans want that cut!

Normal

- Great flick!  If you like the Nobody movies, this is right up your alley!

- Humorous graphic violence is a thing now...

I enjoyed Michael. Jaafar Jackson should win some kind of award for his acting in this one but I am guessing he will not.

Time to rewatch Deliverance.  Hard to believe movie is almost 55 years old.

Anyone ventured out to see the new Star Wars flick yet?

I feel I need to go, but I'm not really expecting much to be honest.

I'll probably check it out this week.

No the trailers looked like garbage and the reviews so far have confirmed that.

I watched it yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It was like an extra long Mando episode, which is what I expected.  I like it better as a series, but definitely glad I saw it in the theater.

Yeah, just got back from seeing it, and I found it entertaining, but that is the best praise I can give it.

Worth seeing in the theater for sure if you like Star Wars in general.

DVD Purge

Afternoon Delight -  I'll be honest, the only reason I have this one is because I LOVE Juno Temple.  However, this movie falls flat.  Some things worth seeing for sure, but not a keeper.  Sorry Juno...

The Da Vinci Code - I liked this movie a lot more the first time I saw it, but still find it interesting enough to keep it in the collection - Keeper

Angels and Demons - See Da Vinci Code above - Keeper

Derailed - At times predictable, but I enjoyed it enough to keep it around - Keeper

Desperate Measures - Meh movie that really could have been better.  I liked the premise, and Keaton was good, actually, he was the best part of this movie, but not a keeper.  Goner

Dinner For Schmucks - Some really funny stuff in this one, I laughed out loud a lot! - Keeper

Die Hard Collection (5 movies) - Keeping them all, and by the way, Die Hard, the original, is NOT a Christmas movie...

My theory is if you saw it in the theater you don't consider it an Xmas movie (it was a summer blockbuster released in July) but if you saw it growing up on DVD you do as it was later marketed for the holidays (probably to sell DVDs).

That's an interesting take and makes sense to me! For me, Christmas is about traditions. Whether or not the film was intended to be, or is or isn't semantically, a "Christmas movie" is irrelevant to me. If you personally (or along with your friends and/or family) have adopted it as a tradition to watch Die Hard during the Christmas season, then for you it is a Christmas movie. No need to decide as a whole if it is or isn't. Of course, I also understand that takes all the fun out of the discussion 😉

I don't really have a problem if people want to think about Die Hard as a Christmas movie, but at best it's coincidental.

Same for When Harry Met Sally, I see folks out there saying it's a New Year's Eve/Day movie but that's a pretty loose association.

Is Planes, Trains and Automobiles a Thanksgiving movie? That might have a stronger case due to Steve Martin's character being motivated to return home in time for the holiday but not really a ton of Thanksgiving themes until the very end.

In the end, if a holiday coming up on the calendar inspires folks to watch certain movies, hey, go for it!

Saw Master of the Universe, the type of movie I wish came out in the late 1980's instead of what we got back then. However, don't see any resurgence happening or a sequel as lots of nostalgia there. It was always a toy line that had a cartoon just to help sell more toys.

It was surprisingly a good movie.  Not the greatest movie but a good one.  Only complaint I had is that it was way too freaking long.  Uggg felt like it was going to go on for forever during some points.

Yeah, I don't know why a He-Man movie needs to be nearly 2.5 hours. Good but not a lot of young people unless they brought their kids like I did. mid teens to twenties were non existent.

No movie other than maybe The Godfather needs to be 2.5 hours.

Good thing the Lord of the Rings movies are closer to 3 hours each because they're totally worth it.

I'll allow it. But I draw the line at Avengers: Endgame.
