First AP poll is out. UW ranked #7
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Is Wisconsin as good as they finished the year last year? I like to cheer them on, but I do not know a lot about basketball outside of the basics/numbers.

They only lost one guy and have a really nice group of freshmen coming in.

Speaking of freshmen, as there been any sort of an update on Lorne Bowman? It sounded like he was going to be a rotation player before he took his leave of absence earlier this fall. Hopefully he and his family are doing well.

I haven't seen any update there.

7 seems high but it kind of make sense with all they have back so they have stability. Whereas the nature of CBB these days is the opposite, and even more compounded this year. I checked on odds for the FF about 2 weeks ago and UW was at +300, so essentially saying 25% chance to make the FF. I thought that was absurd to be that high considering the nature of the tournament.

Nearly unheard of to see a college basketball team start 5 seniors these days. Should be fun to watch.

They’re going to win it all.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Now let's hope "all" is more than one game...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Back to back champs then.

Get the t-shirts printed.

Potter and Reuvers are really good too. Matchup nightmare. Not to mention Aleem Ford who can bomb away at 6-8 as well. Davison, Trice and whoever else mostly just need to be competent to get the ball to those guys. There will be 3s, and there will be more 3s. There might even be a game or 2 where they miss those 3s and lose to somebody they should beat. That's the nature of the game these days.

This team doesn't have THE player the quality of a Devin Harris or Alando or Kaminsky. They are pretty solid though.

Look for Tyler Wahl to be a big part of the bench. He was very good as a true freshman last year.

Potrykus tweeted today that he's no longer in the student directory. That's all he has. Respecting his privacy.

Thanks Homer. Hopefully everything works out for Lorne and his family. If he comes back to Wisconsin that would just be a bonus.

[sarcasm]Now that the football season is over, go basketball![/sarcasm] But seriously I'm excited for this team. Hopefully we can keep covid away from the basketball team.

At face value there is little reason Gard shouldn’t coach the Badgers to at least a #2 seed in the tourney. Pretty good team, experienced, and a really light schedule.

Carlson looks really good. He’s the stereotypical Badger make up in a forward.

Davis is crazy athletic. Got roasted on a back door cut but elevated and blocked the layup from behind.

Potter looks a little rusty, but opening night.

Looks like a 9 man rotation with Anderson, Wahl, Carlson, and Davis getting first half minutes off the bench.

Only concern I see is lack of a third big guy. Other than Reuvers and Potter there isn’t a big guy. Hedstrom and Crowl the two 7’ haven’t seen the court. With an injury or foul trouble they would lack size.

Edit: Crowl the first guy off the bench in second half. Just feels like he needs to put on weight before he’s in the rotation though.

Flip to Marquette to see them for a bit, and can't seem to go back to UW. I know it's Pine Bluff but 66-24 as I'm writing this. Garcia is the real deal, and man they just have waives of athletes shuttling on the court.

On que Potter hobbles off with an ankle injury. Hopefully nothing serious.

EIU is winning the second half 22-13 so far. Really stale offense this half, and some early shot clock deep 3’s.
