Bucks 2021-2022 season thread

Was at the game tonight, only my second one ever. Was a little surprised at the number of empty seats, even being a Wednesday night. For a slightly smaller than expected crowd, it was a great atmosphere, and great game to go to.

Boogie looked pretty good. Great vision and passing skills for a big man, and is a good enough threat from deep to space the floor a bit. He played unselfishly, making the extra pass a couple times, and actually had a couple hustle plays that stood out fighting for offensive rebounds. Actually the two plays that stood out he didn’t even come up with the ball, but I was impressed with the effort level.

BroLo goes under the knife. Tis what I feared w the Boogie signing. Here’s hoping Boogie stays healthy and ramps up and continues to fit in absolutely seamlessly. Big loss losing BroLo like this. Booooo.

What’s up with Giannis? I see he’s out tonight. Is it strategic test or injury related? Cousins is also out?

Giannis is just getting a rest night off - much much deserved.

Boogie isn't going Back-to-Backs with his injury history until he plays his way into actual game shape. This was planned.

Makes sense. Thank you. I usually follow the box score in the evening and I miss those types of details.

Bucks waive Giorgios and sign Wes Mathews from the scrap heap. He looked absolutely toasted last season but has familiarity with the Bucks organization from his season 2 years ago. Given recent history, this might just mean they are about to amputate DDV's foot.

DiVincenzo was assigned to the Herd for a rehab stint. He might be back by the end of the year.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

DDV's return puts us at an interesting question... Does he become a trade piece for a big-man? Allen is playing well and Matthews provides some depth. I don't necessarily want to get rid of DDV, but it does put us at a position of strength so we can shore up a weakness.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Donte has been recalled by the Bucks. So I guess he spent like 45 min on the Herd

Too bad we lost Robin...

That was a bummer when Robin signed with the Wizards before last season, I always enjoyed his Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer look, hook shot & sideline enthusiasm. Would have been fun to see him & Brook win a title together, but now that Robin's a Magic at least he can hit up Disney on the regular.

Bucks now up to a 15 game winning streak when all of Giannis, Khris & Jrue play. Last time the three of them lost was Game 2 of the Finals on July 8th.

Cavs have the biggest front court in the league & Giannis was looking clearly hindered by his calf, but he still went for 27 points in 27 minutes on his 27th birthday & iced the game down the stretch.

He was only 'sent down' - ie to Oshkosh - to participate in a Practice. He wasn't sent down to play in any games. Fwiw.

Early returns on Smart:

This is a definite upgrade to the end of the bench. He is active and impacting the game. His release on his spot-up 3's can still be a tick or too slow - he needs to work on this aspect of his game. BUT, he definitely has impacted the game from an end-of-the bench position. Good returns so far. Here's hoping he keeps it up. Love the size. Love to see him not afraid of the moment. This bodes very well.

AND, for as good as Boogie was in Game 1...he was just a total spaz last night. LOL. Not his finest performance in the League.

Donte is gonna play on Wednesday

That's encouraging. As much as I like DDV, he might be our best hope at acquiring a backup big before the deadline if Brook's back isnt gonna be ready to go.

Donte plus Nwora is like 6 million in salary, throwing in Hood or Semi for filler bumps it up around 8 million. Maybe that & a couple seconds is enough to get Mo Bamba from the Magic?

Myles Turner from Indy would seem like a possible fit in that he can protect the rim & shoot threes, but can't really match salaries without including Lopez.

No Giannis. No Midds. No DDV debut. Cousins out for Personal Reasons. Still quite an entertaining game here mid-4th. Nice hustling. Jrue continuing to play controlled solid ball. Lotta ballgame left but happy I tuned in. EDIT to Add: I'm serious, this is the smoothest best Results Hustle I've seen in a couple weeks for the Buckaroos. Up 13 with 4:25 remaining. Good stuff. Nwora playing solid ball during the run. Grayson's shot isn't falling but he is making nice smart basketball plays. Love it.

I watched the game last night and I agree with the great hustle. I thought their zone defense was particularly awesome. Everybody played their hearts out and it all came together in their run in the 4th quarter.

Obviously, watching Giannis play night in and night out is an absolute privilege. To have the best player on the planet play for the Bucks is just an incredible luxury and gift I would never have imagined. In that regard, we are simply blessed as Bucks fans.

BUT, I'm also a stickler for beautiful Team basketball. Last night, in my opinion, was the best all-around Team basketball the Bucks have played all year. They were sharing the ball with artfulness. The ball was moving. Guys were hitting the open shot. Guys who weren't, were doing all the other things. They took advantage of Indiana missing shots and went on a 21-0 run to seal the game in the pivotal 4th Qtr.
