Packers 2022 Discussion Thread

Glad they didn’t pay that contract to a WR, wish he was traded to a team drafting higher than 22.

Seems like a lot of talent heading to AFC.

Takes two sides to want to make a deal. Sounds like the Packers made a massive offer, which he rejected.

Which we should have had definitely have had some inkling on before we signed Rodgers to his massive extension.

EDIT: I guess Rodgers was already well aware of this, so there should be no harm there. But our WR room needs massive work with little money to work with.

Obviously waiting to see what the full return is, but a lot will also depend on what they're able to do via trade and F.A.  I'm not sure paying a guy pushing up onto age 30 that kind of money as a WR is super smart, especially with how much money they're already kicking down the line, but it definitely also really puts the pressure on them to rebuild the WR corps from the ground up immediately.  Which might not be a bad thing.

Adams probably just sabotaged his career. You'd have to go back all the way to James Lofton to find a Packers receiver to leave Green Bay and have at least as much success with his new team. Certainly none during the Favre/Rodgers era.

Hunter Renfrow would be nice

You beat me to it.  Bryan Edwards progressed nicely last year, and fits their size profile (6'3", 215)

Sounds like the deal is a 1st and 2nd- 22 and 53.

And, technically, $20 million of cap room.

So no player?

It sounds like Adams didn't want to stay in Green Bay. I sure would like to know why.

GB is cold/boring, LV is warm/exciting. Could think Rodgers is a flake & is over it. Maybe just wanted to be closer to home, or to prove he can put up numbers without AR12.

I’ve read speculation that he soured on the franchise after playing “good soldier” and not getting market value for so long.  But I’m guessing it’s more about maxing out on his last chance for a mega deal.  We weren’t going to go five years, but Vegas could and obviously did. Simple as that, I would imagine.

So no waller coming back?(how do we do sarcasm now)

Packers offered to match the deal and he refused. I agree with the first sentence of your post though. The Packers could have given him this contract last year and didn't, I wouldn't be surprised if he decided along the way to just wash his hands of the whole thing and move on. Remember he was posting all the "Last Dance" stuff right along with Rodgers last season.

What??? And they didn't even get very much back for him.

Hard to think they could have expected more. I can't think of any receiver bringing back more than a 1st and 2nd in the last 20 years.

That's a really good return for a player who didn't want to be here.  Turn that $20M into Landry or a trade for a top 10 receiver and they are only slightly worse off in the WR room, but now have 2 top 53 picks to boot.

I am absolutely a fan of Davante as a professional athlete and Packer AND I still absolutely love this deal. You can't fathom paying a 30 yo WR who has some injury history that amount of money - at least, not in my book. Packers were willing to match and he simply wanted to get back to the West Coast and play with Carr. Win Win in my book. We now have draft ammo. This is awesome. 2 1's/2 2's/2 4's? Epic stuff.

+1 that franchise tag is well worth the cost in this case.

I don't remember a best receiver in football being traded ever. They needed to get at least another high draft pick, probably another first rounder. I sure hope they got something more than two draft picks. Otherwise I think we got fleeced.

Best is subjective, but Moss and D. Hopkins both returned less. Houston didn't even get a single 1st for Nuk.
