If you are a bit too young to remember James Lofton, here are 10 minutes worthy of your time.  12 if you want to see him in a Raider or Bills uniform, too.

He was the best player at his position from the time he was drafted until 1985.  He was the best player on some bad teams. Back to back 1,300 yard 22+ yards per catch seasons in 1983 and 1984, all while averaging less than 4 catches per game.  In 1984, he had games of 0, 0, 1, 1, and 2 catches, and still managed 62 catches and 1300 yards.  His quarterback his first 20 games was David Whitehurst.  While the prime of his time in Green Bay he played with Lynn Dickey, he also played with Rich Campbell, Randy Wright, Jim Zorn, Vince Ferragamo, and Chuck Fusina.

If Lofton play for his college coach in San Francisco, or in San Diego with a team who could get their best players the ball often, who knows what sort of numbers he'd have put up.

I still believe after Don Hutson, Lofton is the second best receiver to play in Green Bay.  Sterling Sharpe was amazing, but I think Lofton was a bit better

Gosh, I actually remembered a bunch of those Lofton highlights!  He really was good!

(When I was a kid, I really liked John Jefferson better, but what did I know???)

So assuming Adams has some great years with the Raiders and then retires, does he go on the Packers' Wall of Fame?

I think it's a pretty safe bet he will. If he has some kind of amazing back end to his career the NFL HOF would be a tougher call

I think the Adams trade is the best case scenario in the Rodgers/Adams offseason question. Like most others I assumed they either both stay or both leave so never really considered it. I have been pretty firmly in the cap issues are overrated camp but giving them both the huge contracts would limit just how "all in" we can go to get another ring before Rodgers retires. Now we get an infusion of young talent from the picks and more cap flexibility now and down the road. I don't think it's a given that Rodgers will only play a couple of more years. Yeah it hurts to lose him but Rodgers can carry the passing game and we can continue to work on building the D and running game we need to get us over the top. I am just thrilled we got 2 good picks for Adams, I would have thought pick #22 would be about it. Can't wait for the draft.

I also like the idea of bringing MVS back, he has developed into a good #2 and you just hope the injury plagued year was on outlier and will hopefully keep his price down.

I'm not as positive on MVS as you are and think he's a fine #2 when you have an elite #1 (Adams).  I can see they might need to placate Aaron and add MVS as another buddy (let's face it Cobb coming back is probably part of the placate Aaron). I think the Packers would be much better served by picking up 2 #2 WR to go with Lazard, Cobb and Amari R plus 2 Rookies.  That would be a likely upgrade to the overall WR room talent, but spread out better.  I'm not sure Gute has enough rabbits in his hat to pull that off and we are likely to see a trade/FA #2 picked up with MVS on a 1 year "prove it" deal.

3 Year deal for Rasul Douglas. Re-signed and confirmed. He is such a great fit in our Defense. We have a case for the best secondary in the League when healthy if they perform at historical Levels. I'm excite.

Well he for sure will be in the Packers Hall of Fame no matter what he does with the Raiders. If he is great with the Raiders and makes the HOF he will get his name on the Lambeau facade like all hall of famers.

The Packers have re-signed Robert Tonyan, per Silverstein.

Indeed they have:

Edit to Add: It would appear the hope is he'll be ready for Training Camp.

Quote

Had Tonyan even gotten close to duplicating that production, he would have been one of the best tight ends on the free agent market. Instead, he suffered a torn ACL at Arizona.

“He’s been here a while and we know his work ethic,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said recently. “He’s working his tail off and we feel pretty good about his recovery.”

It was a clear tear, a source said recently, and the hope is he will be on the field for the first practice of training camp.

Packers have signed DT Jarran Reed. Started his career with Seattle before starting at DT for all 17 hgames last year for KC. DT depth at this point if nothing else, but he was pretty good for Seattle- 10.5 sacks in 2018 and 6.5 in 2020.

Reed is rated as a better pass rusher than run defender - however it should be noted that he's largely played in 4-3 defensive schemes as a DT, and his size likely slides just fine to starting DE position in a 3-4.  He's got some disruptiveness off the line that could pair well next to Kenny Clark.

Of note, some mockers had Reed to the Packers in the 2016 first round where they took Clark instead. Now they get to play next to each other.

That's a really neat factoid! Thanks!  ?

Really like the Reed signing. This is that 'end of his Prime' stage so a 1 year deal is perfect. He's a guy that can impact the game in a variety of ways. He was originally a pass rush guy but he has become a more well-rounded and team-oriented guy. He has 16 more pressures than Dean Lowry, for example, in the past 3 years. He isn't what he was during his 2018 10.5 sack campaign but that's fine. I would casually argue he's more going to solidify the run defense while still being able to cause situational pressures and pocket collapse. Paired with KC, he'll  create better depth and a better D-Line. This moves Lancaster into a negligible role and that is something that is good for the team - no offense to Tyler, but he's about as Replacement Level as it gets.

These are non-splashy, but necessary moves.  If TT did this, we'd have 2 more SBs at least.  Seems like every year, we are killed by our weakest link (often filled by an UDFA that isn't ready for prime NFL snaps).  This at least raises the bar on our weakest defensive link.  Now we can draft OLB, DL, ILB, and Safety without pressure of a glaring hole.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Well, with the Packers I never know if a single SB - regardless of what they do - is a certainty. BUT, to your point, it is definitely agreed here this what they should do. Kenny has needed legit high end Vet help for years. This raises the depth low end. That is a Win.

Lancaster is a free agent so the Reed signing could very well ensure he moves on to another team.

I still secretly want them to sign Akiem Hicks on a prove it 1 year deal. When he is healthy and motivated he is still an absolute Force.

Reports that the Packers have inquired about both Metcalf and Lockett with Seattle, which virtually assures that they won’t acquire either.

Eh, at least they're inquiring.  I mean, at least they're not saying, "Nah, we're good."

So what FA WR should we be targeting? Landry? Julio? Fuller?

That's the Million $ question. Of those 3, I'd probably go Fuller, Landry, and then Julio. But, it all depends on what happens with MVS and what the Packers overall thought process is.
