A bit surprised they didn't grab a developmental corner somewhere as they only have seven on the roster.  I'd expect them to grab a couple UDFA corners and at least one UDFA safety.

I have to think Scott Nelson may be one of the guys here. He came in for the visit. Had the measure-ables and testing numbers. Seems like a classic flyer guy.

They addressed their needs.  3 WR (two of them in the first four rounds), 3 OL, 2 DT (one early and one late), and a legit 3-down game-changing ILB who should be able to cover even the best TEs. Only criticism is giving up a bit too much for Watson (should have asked for at least a 5th back from MIN) and not grabbing a developmental CB.  A- for sure.

Toure averaging 19.5 ypc in 2021 at Nebraska and we essentially drafted 3 wideouts who averaged 20 or more ypc in 2021 if I'm not mistaken?

Caleb Jones is a poor man's Daniel Faalele.  Listed at 6'8", 362.  I don't think he can stay at tackle unless the Pack can get him to drop at least 30 lbs.  Didn't impress me at all in the few Indiana games I watched.

What, no qb drafted?

This was a really fun draft class.  Lots to be excited about.  Is it time for preseason games yet?

They've reportedly signed Chauncey Manac as a UDFA.  I was going back and forth between him and Aaron Mosby for my UDFA edge rusher.  Bah!

Sneaky good UDFA pick up in Goodson. That kid can really play. Always feels refreshing when a Hawkeye grabs the Green and Gold. I see a 9.54 RAS and a legitimate PS stash for a 3 down or receiving RB role (1 drop in 38 targets in 2021).

Packer Draft Predictions:

  • Easy Ones
    • Drafts multiple WRs.
    • Draft a 4th/5th round OL
    • Trades up - Just too much draft capitol for Gute to sit tight.
    • Draft someone we didn't expect
    • Draft a TE higher then people expect and draftniks give us a low draft grade.  Fans complain that we could've traded down 2.5 spots and drafted him there.
    • 75% of draftees have a RAS > 8.00
    • Doesn't draft a WI player.  Fans are upset.
  • Hard Ones
    • Doesn't take a first round WR
    • Drafts 3 WRs. Two in the top 4 rounds - The third is also a PR/KR.
    • Trades up from #22 and down from #28.
    • Drafts someone from Cinncinnati
    • Drafts a player recovering from an ACL and dropped as a result
    • Grabs a late round RB that is labeled as a steal.

Samori Toure in the 7th.

I'm no @LouisEly, but I think I did ok

  • Multiple WRs - Pass
  • 4th/5th round OL - Pass
  • Trades up - Pass
  • Draft someone we didn't expect - Pass - I think Walker qualifies.  Haven't taken an ILB for a long time.
  • Draft a TE - Fail
  • 75% of draftees with an RAS of >8.0: Fail.  Close 6 of 11 overall, but 5 of 6 in the top 4 rounds.
  • Doesn't draft a WI Player: Pass
  • Doesn't take a 1st round WR: Pass
  • Draft 3 WRs: Pass - The PR was the 2nd taken, but close enough
  • Trade down up from 22 and down from 28: Fail
  • Draft someone from Cinncinnati: Fail - Hoping for Pierce and a few others I liked.
  • Draft a player recovering from ACL: Fail - Thought there were enough to be a good chance.
  • Grab a late round RB: Fail I'm surprised with Hill's knee injury they didn't grab someone

7 Passes out of 13 with an extra bonus for picking Samori Toure. I was doing so well initially, but those last 4 came back to bite me.

I think Goodson counts as a late round RB.  He was productive and test well athletically.  I just read a list on NFL.com that has him ranked the best non drafted RB.    I would not be surprised at all if he sticks.

I'm going through my post-draft highlight ritual to ride the High. Given I'm more excited about this Packer haul than I ever have been post-draft. I'm finding drool-worthy clips and analysis across the board. LOL.

Post-pick, Rock Larry McCarren discussed JJ's 'heavy hands'. You see it here:

Christian Watson is simply an insane athlete. I said it after the pick. I'll say it again. He's a Unicorn: (Full rep at game speed in thread)

And, some Zach Tom love:

Yeah, if the guy just becomes Lucas Patrick 2.0 there’s significant value in that in the 4th round.

Long Snapper competition:

Thank the Football Gods!?

More on Kaye here:

Quote

Kaye has been in Birmingham, Alabama, working out with other draft-eligible and NFL punters and kickers, and talked to between seven to nine teams.

He was nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy for community service in 2020, led the Sun Belt and was ranked third in the Group of Five conferences and 14th nationally among long snappers by Pro Football Focus in 2019.

This season, Kaye was named a Special Teams U Third-Team All-American in November and was a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, which goes to the nation's top long snapper. He entered this season with 500 snaps in his college career with a 99.8% success rate.

I think other people might have said something similar, but this felt a lot like a Ted Thompson draft from when he was at his best. Pass rusher (interior in this case) in the first round? Check. Second round receiver? Check. A couple of college tackles who are athletic but might have to kick inside in the NFL? Check. A day 3 flyer or two at receiver? Check.

This whole draft feels familiar in the best of possible ways.

The first rounders addressed two of the weaker starting positions on the defensive side of the ball. The rest of the draft filled in the two areas where depth was lacking on offense: receiver and offensive line. There are still some question marks (top-end pass catching talent, at least for this season, and depth on the edge and the secondary), but this feels like a draft that should help both now and in the future.

I noticed the discussion online and on the radio has gone from not drafting a wr early. Now they are saying, “can Watson gain AR’s trust?” Just stfu already.

Trey Sterling was a starter in 2019 and 2020 but was injured most of 2021.  Didn't run well at their pro day.  Must have hated school because he certainly was eligible for another season which could have really helped him.

Keke Chism was a star at FCS Angelo State before transferring to Missouri.  Typical Packers outside receiver at 6'4", 209.   Also didn't run well at their pro day.

B.J. Baylor was a starter for only one season, but it was an impressive one.  Averaged almost 6 ypc.  No pro day info that I can find.

Ellis Brooks was a 2-year starter with mediocre pro day results.

Cole Schneider played in 47 games, almost all of them at guard but one start at center last season.  29 reps on the bench at pro day.

George Moore IV started 6 games at LT for Oregon last year and 7 at LG.  Started all seven games in 2020 at LT.  82.6 pass blocking grade from PFF.  Decent 3-cone (7.6) for his size.

Alex Spillum was a 2-year starter with decent pro day numbers (4.52 40, 6.96 3-cone).  Four interceptions in 2020.

Anthony Turner was a NAIA All-American.  6'4", 220.

Raleigh Texada is listed at 5"10", 188.  Supposedly ran ~4.4 at their pro day.

Caliph Brice had an impressive pro day - ran a 4.5 40 and 37.5" vertical.  Played through injuries in 2021, missed a few games.

Tyler Goodson ran a 4.42 at the Combine.  A bit on the small size though (5'9", 197), not enough power to drive through contact.

Chaunce Manac had a big senior season for Louisiana, with 10.5 sacks, 14.5 TFL, and 2 forced fumbles.  Decent 40 time (4.66) but poor 3-cone (7.75).

Not a whole lot to get excited about.  Barring injuries, I don't see any of these guys making the final 53 except for possibly Manac.

It’s uncanny isn’t it? BUT it is literally the exact same thing with the Bucks. They get zero love from the mainstream media outlets. It is what it is.
