A good test for the Brewers against a solid lefty. It seems like this is one of the first times since the ASG that the Brewers have faced a starting pitcher with an ERA under 4.

I’m sorry but it’s absolutely confusing to me how for a team that’s deep in matchups and analytics - they continue to whiff on the most obvious split of the year that even the most casual fan can ask ‘what?’. 
 

None the less - let’s go boys. Need a win here, and need the pen to have another nice game to continue the ship righting process.

It really is perplexing. It has to be 100% motivated by wanting to give Tellez days off against lefties and not a need to get Hiura in against lefties, but it really makes no sense... It'd be better to let Wong stay in at 2B and Urias at 3B, and put Brosseau at 1st if you really want to give Tellez a day off.

The Brewers didn’t pick up a right handed hitting 1B at the deadline so the options are limited.

Hiura hit an HR when he started against a LHP on Saturday so why not try it again.

If Keston can get his K rate back down to 30% where it was his rookie year with his adjustments, we may be on to something. His quality of contact is elite.

He still can’t hit upper strike zone fastballs.  I am not sure why teams are still pitching him down in the zone as he has been elite down there getting his bat to the ball in that location of the strike zone.

Top of the zone is still a massive black hole for Hiura.

That's a valid point, you'd probably need to stick Renfroe or a catcher at first to pull it off with the current roster. But I would probably just pick different days to give them days off.

That said, giving him occasional starts against lefties is fine, it's just that it seems like he's put in there every time there's a lefty on the mound that's mind boggling. He's had 67 PAs against lefties and 84 against righties this year and that's not the optimal ratio you'd like him seeing.

Yeah, it's still wait and see obviously. But he has elite hit tools, so there's a chance.

Hiura should be starting against everyone. Daily. He is hitting well. Hate watching him field, though, I have to admit. If only the NL had the DH.
