Middleton left the Bucks game tonight with knee soreness.  Better be minor, Bucks don’t win a title without him.  The good part is he has time, they don’t need him until the Eastern Conference Finals probably.

Would someone kindly explain to me, as someone who's #4 sport to watch is basketball, as to how the "play in tournament" works? Just wondering because I'd like to know who the Bucks are playing in the first round and the obvious answer of 7 vs. 10 and 8 vs. 9 doesn't appear to be it.

I just found out 7 plays 8 and 9 plays 10.  Iirc, the higher seed is home and only has to win once and lower seed has to win twice to advance.

Looks like I remembered closely.  The winner of 7/8 is the 7 and the loser plays the winner of 9/10 with that winner being the 8.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

The #7 and #8 seed play each other for the #7 whoever wins gets the #7 seed whoever loses plays for the last spot in the playoffs against the winner of the 9vs10 game.

It is lovely to see both Philly and Boston on the other side of that bracket.

I think it was more important to be the #1 for that reason rather than home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  I'll take my chances of the winner of CLE / NY and then either Boston / Philly, rather than the prospects of having to beat them both.

I think I'd rather play Philadelphia than Cleveland.

So you think you can take Embid on? 😉

Here are we looking 2 rounds ahead and the Bucks are in serious danger of being bounced in the 1/8 matchup if Giannis misses any significant time in this series.

With Giannis out the Bucks are done.

The regular season is meaningless.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I mean ....they are probably going to lose this game but they have to lose 4 and unless you've heard something that I haven't it's entirely possible at this moment that he's back for Game 2.

They might have just decided with the way that this game was trending that it wasn't worth it to try to push him and preferred to set their sights on the rest of the series instead.

Miami looked like they've been playing all week and we looked rusty.  I think we could take the series w/o Giannis, but I hope we don't have to.  Looked like G was holding his upper buttock..which is probably more like a bad bruise rather than something with his spine/tailbone - which would be more serious.

I meant that they were done for today, but I also meant that the regular season is meaningless.

With all of the injuries and load management rests, you get 7 seeds like the Lakers and 8 seeds like the heat that are a lot more dangerous than the seeds suggest.

Even if Giannis can play, this series isn’t going to be the cakewalk everyone who was looking ahead to the conference finals was expecting.

Pretty early to get too concerned about the series unless Giannis' status for the next few weeks is in question.

They were down 2-0 to two better teams than this in '21 when they won it all.

The Heat aren't dangerous. If Giannis doesn't miss time I doubt the Bucks lose another game. I wish them the best shooting 60% again while the Bucks simultaneously are 8/90 from 3. And still had a chance at a run with a few minutes left.

It is annoying that with this dumb set up we aren't playing the Bulls, though.

Terrible game but it was actually great to see Middleton look that good.

I've always thought whatever sport would be better off where the 1 Seed gets to choose which opponent it plays in the round, and then #2 chooses, etc. It would build better rivalries.
