If this is the deal, it is safe to say that A LOT of people have not put the right kind of value on Ruiz. Including many here. Definitely makes the Hader trade look better in retrospect.

Holy crap, yeah the "non-baseball front office" community must have been way off on Ruiz's value this whole time. Adding Contreras, Yeager, and Payamps to the Hader haul definitely softens the sting of that deal.

Probably a LOT, however, when they traded Hader, they couldn't possibly know what it would lead to.

In all fairness, is Murphy that much better than Contreras?  I know there are a million stats that will say it's so, but how much better is he in true life?

This is always just informational, Ruiz with his tools can have a widely variable valuation depending on the club/scouting done on him. That said, I don't see a scenario where this is all we give up. There's just no way. If it is that's highway robbery.

I’m guessing a big difference in defense? Murphy is probably better in that department but I’m just guessing.

Contreras is going to be a work in progress defensively. But so was Narvaez, and he turned out to be perfectly fine back there.

As someone pointed out, the Braves had to throw in their #1 and #6 prospects plus. Yeah if we had been willing to give up that much more we could have gotten him.

I personally prefer Contreras, who has much more team control and is less proven but has All Star upside. (Literally already was an All Star lol)
