Interesting putting Turang Yelich Winker b2b2b and not breaking up the lefties more

This will be relevant once, maybe twice...and we aren't locked into this. Also Turang and Yelich both hold their own very well against lefties. Winker on the other hand will get instantly pulled against a lefty.

Also didn't want to make a whole thread, but it's nice to see Orlando Arcia getting a guaranteed amount that should give him some stability in life. $7.3m guaranteed, not saying he'll never work again but smart investments and that should be him set

Something I didn't realize, the Cubs don't have a single lefty in their Bullpen so scratch my note on LLL in the lineup

If this doesn't get you pumped for opening day, nothing will. We are very lucky to have BA calling games in Milwaukee.

Yeah, all 30 of them.  He's just not the same BA he was when he was full time.  Doesn't know the nuances of the team, just feels like he shows up, reads a few notes prior to the game and wings it.  It will be a different feel to the booth this year with BA calling very few games, and Bill Schroeder doing fewer and fewer road games.  A time for change I guess.

I wonder how many teams are going without a lefty in the bullpen. The Astros are doing it again this year and I know the Mariners are as well.

What in the world? Who has all the lefty relievers? The Brewers only have one. Is there simply a shortage of quality LH relievers?

If Ashby were healthy we'd have 1 of either he or Lauer as a lefty in the pen. Honestly look at Lauer as this year's Suter or Ashby as this year's Hader whenever they pitch in relief.

Lauer sits at 93-94 mph on his four-seam fastball. Suter only has that kind of stuff in his dreams.

Cubs only have 2 LHP on their roster and both of them are SP, so don't really need to worry about 3 LHH hitting back to back to back against them.

Sure. It's lower than Ashbys so the comparison was towards the role as LHP in the bullpen. Inning filler vs an 8th or 9th inning close stuff.  Would you prefer Lauer in the 9th or Ashby?

Hopefully both of them are current and future starters, so that is a hypothetical that will never happen. Both have the stuff to succeed as late-inning relievers, though. Lauer's ability to generate swings and misses with his four-seamer is close to elite-level.

It will be interesting to see which guys in the bullpen are part of the "A" group. The bullpen will be a lot better once Ashby and Houser are back, plus a possible Uribe addition later.

Maybe CC will have the starters go a little deeper in games as well?

He had a sneaky good year last year.  He was an above average hitter for the first time in his career.  9 HRs in only 234 PA.  Had an OBP above the league average.  Good defense at second base.  Only played 1 game at SS.  He DHd more than he played SS.  If he could replicate that performance over a full season he would have commanded a pretty high price on the free agent market going into his age 29 season I would think.  He was probably smart to take that contract.  Doubt he will do that over a full season.  IF he does Braves got a steal.
