Brewers-Rays Sunday Afternoon -- Peralta of the Brewers vs. Beeks of the Rays

I'm all for these new rules to shorten the game but they really need to be fine tuned next offseason. Some of these situations we're seeing are just ridiculous.

I've been busy with some glass recycling and beer drinking with the glass crew, so I missed how we had a runner on 3d with 1 out and then ahd a runner on 2d with 2 out and no run. bughghghg I'm not sure I want to know how that happened

Wow!  What a play!!

Best play of the season, maybe!

Great play by Anderson bare-handing that chopper with a great throw, too!

Big win……..my favorite moment……Yelly jumping into the wall after the catch in middle of the game.

or maybe…..the superb barehanded play by Anderson after CC moved him to 3rd for defensive purposes……..or Joey catching a liner right at him to end the game witb Devin on the mound…….to put that other one to rest.

Contact play. Runner out at home, batter/runner takes 2nd due to the rundown.

There's a lot of complaints about the contact play, but with one out it's almost always the way to go. You force the INF to make a play, and if it's something like what happened today it's the runners' responsibility to hang himself up long enough to put the batter/runner in scoring position.

In most instances I believe it's the right thing to do. I think it's one of those deals when folks remember all the times it DOES'NT work.

Run prevention. It has to be a cornerstone.

Too bad Freddy had the horrible 4th (2 walks) after being up 3-0. Shows how much maturing he still has to accomplish. That kept you from being up maybe 4-5 runs & not having to use your late-inning guys, thus potentially affecting tomorrow.

The Brewers catch a break with Valdez, one of the premier LHP in the league, pitching today against the A’s. So, they’ll be facing 3 RHP starters against the Astros.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Tampa's only lost 4 at home this year. Nice to have one of them.

You got a ton of faith to expect them to get 1 run against a lefty.  Honestly, the fact that the Brewers front office did nothing to address this in the offseason is mind boggling.  The true definition of insanity.

They acquired Contreras who had a 162 wRC+ vs LHP from 2021-22, 10th best in MLB. He’s at a 149 wRC+ vs LHP so far this year.

What they lost from Renfroe (+5.7 wRAA vs LHP in 2022) and Cutch (+1.2) was more than offset by jettisoning the PAs vs LHP that were given to Wong (-6.9 wRAA), Cain (-6.6), Hiura (-2.9) and Omar (-1.1) in 2022.

Two of our better hitters vs LHP the last two seasons, Urias (114 wRC+) and Taylor (111 wRC+), have been hurt and missed most of the season to this point.

Even a guy like Anderson put up a respectable 107 wRC+ vs LHP back when he was healthy and productive in 2018-20.

Wiemer has a higher OPS vs LHP for his minor league career and has posted a 157 wRC+ vs LHP so far this year.

There is no arguing the Brewers have been brutal vs LHP to start the season, but it’s not the result of doing nothing.

Yelich takes a ball off the kneecap? What could go wrong?

Maybe this will be like Henry Rowengartner, only in reverse!

I don't know about you, but I prefer to have a runner on third base with two outs instead of second base with two outs.

If those are my only two options I would too. But you're not factoring in the runner scoring from third, which happens a lot more than the detractors of the strategy think. Not you, but someone earlier in the thread said the next time it works will be the first time. Seriously?

Miller is a fast runner. Franco had to move, take a short hop & make a fairly off-balance throw. He did. It happens. With one out it's a pretty standard strategy everywhere unless the runner on 3rd has a piano on his back.

Thanks.  I kinda figured that was the most likely thing.  I have no probem with the contact play.
