No complaints about the 3-1 strike call on Steer.

Weird that you didn't make a comment when I criticized the umps for giving Devin Williams a generous strike call.

That is what I was laughing at.

I understood that.

Laughing is not a complaint.

Not weird. I didn’t see it.

Is a .679 OPS against lefties that bad?  It's 2 points worse on the season compared to Ruf against lefties.

I think the career numbers are more relevant than Ruf’s 38 PA against LHP this season.

Right...

Sorry, but I do not necessarily see every single post on the game thread.

So now you are accusing me of lying.

It very much was a complaint.

I'm not saying anything.

Are they?  Ruf is pretty old and might be completely washed.

Then explain that one word response.

BTW, I looked back at the posts from that part of the game thread and don’t see anything specific about a Williams pitch.

I have to assume now that wiguy was referring to a general post he made about  the ump being bad. Because I do not follow the game thread pitch by pitch as I follow the game, I would have no way of knowing if that was just a general comment about the whole game or if it referred to a specific pitch.

I’m done with this exchange.

It might be Payton Henry time. Caratini has been bad enough at the plate, but teams are running all over him.

Caratini's throws to second today were indeed very very bad.

I like the guy, and he's a backup catcher. Whatever. I'm just not sure he's bringing much value at this point?

Well, he was sitting at home when the Brewers signed him after being DFA’d twice already this year.

When's the last time the Brewers won the first game of a series?

Brewers swept Royals, winning game one on May 12.

The series before, took game one against Dodgers before losing the next two.

Otherwise, ever since Seattle  series in April, it sure seems like we lose an awful lot of openers.

Tellez has not done much over the last month or so, even with sitting against a lot of the lefties.

Maybe he shouldn't be sitting.  Perhaps he is one of those who is better with regular at bats?

With the way the Brewers hit LHP I wouldn't mind him getting more at bats against them. It's not like the Brewers have a great alternative right now

If he wasn't Burnes "personal catcher" he'd probably be headed towards a DFA at some point this season. His framing has been really poor and he has the worst pop time in the MLB.

Why should a pitcher of Burnes' caliber need a 'personal catcher'?

What happened to Ruf?

Knee banged into the metal end of the tarp chasing a foul ball. Severely cut his knee and needed stitches. He’s likely headed to the IL with the news of Singleton being called up.

Forget nice things, we can't even have ok or decent things this year...

Tellez has been getting regular at bats, but for the last month he hasn’t been hitting much (OPS of .696) even while the vast majority of those ABs have come against RHP, either when he starts or enters as a PH or mid game replacement. His career splits pretty clearly indicate that he hits RHP much better than LHP.

Given that the Brewers are the worst (or very close to it) hitting team in MLB against LHP, they signed Ruf a couple of days after he was DFAd by the Giants (who released him as he returned from the IL with a wrist inflammation) in an attempt to help out a glaring weak spot.

Though he didn’t do much of anything in his short stint with the Brewers, he did seem to have more quality ABs and made some pretty good contact in that short time for someone who hadn’t been in a game for  3 weeks. He clearly passed the low bar established  by Voit and Winker. On the Brewers, his K rate of 7 in 30 ABs (23%) almost qualifies him as a “contact hitter)  😀

IMHO it made sense to have him in the starting lineup over Tellez yesterday. I can accept that reasonable minds could differ over that
