It's an upgrade, but it's also boring as can be. A band-aid.

Perfect summary.  They could have at least milked it until tomorrow to try for a more exciting pickup, which was pretty much all of them.

LOL Typical Brewers move. Nothing like maximizing your chances in what will likely be Woody/Burnes last year. SMH, I should have known they were only going to do little "band aid" non needle moving moves so they can go "see! We did stuff at the deadline". Ummm not really. They still need a big time bat. I'd bet anything this is their last move.

To be fair, you were betting their last move was their last move.

I like this move especially if they pick up the club option next season. Just saying he would be an ideal platoon mate at 1B with Tyler Black!

I liked Jarvis but was unsure of him because he saw the big tick up in AA with the tacky balls which really seem to help pitchers with his profile.

Also to keep in mind, Jarvis is Rule 5 eligible this offseason, so Brewers potentially didn’t think they would protect him. Better to trade him now than potentially lose him for nothing in the offseason.

I like it, I thought he was one of the better fits available at this point and sounds like we didn't have to give up anything too regrettable to get him either.

2023 vs. RHP - .255/.337/.373/.710 103 wRC+
2021-23 vs. RHP - .257/.371/.389/.759 123 wRC+

2023 vs. LHP - .229/.347/.396/.743 111 wRC+
2021-23 vs. LHP - .230/.335/.397/.733 111 wRC+

Should be an above average bat against both righties and lefties. Has positive DRS's at both corner outfield spots and has logged a decent amount of time at first base this year as well.

Santana and Canha aren't exactly the sexiest moves, but they're exactly what we needed. Going from 79 wRC+ at 1B, 55 wRC+ at DH, and 75 wRC+ in RF to what should be right around 100 if not higher is a major boost.

Now slam the cherry on top with a Hernandez/Jimenez/Candelario type guy and we're really talking :)

Yep give this group at chance to get hot but hold the main prospects for this next contending window.

That's the thing, who says their will be another contending window? None of us know that, and even if there is, we don't know when it might be. There are no certainties. That's why when you have two stud arms like they have, you should maximize that window. Alas, they are the Brewers.

To be fair, I knew if there were more coming, they would be small time ones like this. I miss Doug Melvin.

Gotta love the "hope" strategy, they utilize.

Weren’t you upset about not getting the Cron/Grichuck package? Is there really any difference between that and Santana/Canha?

Don't know what I'm missing but Canha seems like a massive upgrade to the current DH production.  Heck, put Yeli at DH and stick Canha in left and you've probably upgraded both sides of the ball.

Mets paying his remaining 2023 salary. Potentially saving some $ there that can be used in another acquisition. We essentially got canha for free. The only fair arguments are that we should have aimed higher, and we still can. There's no rule that says we can't get another outfielder and have to play canha.

Which Melvin moves are you pining for? The Suppan, Lohse, Garza signings?

No, I couldn't have cared less about Cron/Grichuk. They don't move the needle either. Just like Santana, just like Canha. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.

I would've been with you 1-2 years ago when the window was longer with Burnes, Woodruff, and Hader. But at this point, the focus needs to be building around Chourio, Frelick, Black, Mitchell, Yelich, Peralta, Contreras, Quero, Misiorowski, Weimer, Turang, Gasser, Ashby, etc. Nothing significant should be moved to bolster the 2023 team. Moves like Santana and Canha for 20-30 ranked players in the system are appropriate right now.

Santana and now Canha, The ‘23 Brewer sure have an affinity for .720 OPS hitters on other teams.

Explain to me how those two are not massive upgrades over the current production at 1B and DH.

Also expanded playoffs changes the math on all-in deadline trades but I guess that is just my opinion.
