FWIW:  I have a very limited knowledge of sabermetrics. I don't mock them. I just don't worship them, because we're dealing with humans.  It's like backgammon: you can know all the odds, but a lot still rides on the roll of the dice.  A baseball manager must read the almost unreadable factor of human attitude and psychology. And there also stuff like weather and other unpredictable variables.  Past stats are very valuable, and not to be ignored. But they are no guarantee.

Unfortunate aspect of being ace. You typically get matched against the other team's best pitchers and consequently receive relatively little run support. Yesterday happened to be matched against the best pitcher in baseball this year.
