Depends on if they see the team as a contender, or decide to tear it down. If they still see a quality team, I could see them going for someone like Gabe Kapler. Kinda robotic as a manager, but the guy preps like no one else, and was Manager of the year in 2021.

He's a finalist for the Padres but I wouldn't be against Mike Shildt. If he turns out to be bad, well he's just a few subtracted letters away from a real good nickname.

not sure if he is even looking at managing in 2024, but I'd like DeRosa. Id like to go with a younger, first time one rather than a retread.

DeRosa has a good reputation but I just don't like the guy. It's about the way he talks but I'm sure once he separates himself from his TV personality he'd be fine. I also don't think Milwaukee would be on his short list of places he'd like to manage.

He did OK with the cards, so I'm good with that.

This is a tough position to be in with many of the good candidates already gone. Why weren't we interviewing them? I would have wanted Vogt.

Molitor. Still just 67, managed a small market club before; former MOY. Prestige hire.

Was a far better player than manager.  At 67, he's enjoying life.  Can't imagine he wants to manage again.

I think it will be Villanueva.  I believe they have been grooming him for awhile now.

I wouldn’t mind Seitzer or DeRosa.

Seitzer checks the "former Brewer" box. Hitting coach for the best offense in baseball. He is older, but there's a lot to like there.

Whatever their plans for 2024 we already know a full teardown and long rebuild is not on the cards, so I don't think the short-term plans matter that much; whoever they pick is going to be expected to win games either immediately or very soon. Basically shouldn't impact their choice at all, you get who you think is the best fit with your overall goals and phillsophy.

How has Mark Kotsay managed in Oakland?

It's weird how many former players who've become managers in recent years played for the Brewers.

To be honest we feel headed for a transition of some sort, not contending. I’d try to use someone as an interim guy that won’t need a big contract. We already watched the entire market sign before Counsell ditched…so I would like to avoid the scraps. See what is out there next year.

Erickson is a feel good story I suppose. I recall players really liked and respected him.

There was a report last week that the Brewers had requsted permissions for manager interviews; no reports on who they interviewed though. So I'm pretty sure the search doesn't start from zero. If the Cubs could keep this quiet, I'm sure the Brewers could keep their search quiet too.

I do think the timing is unfortunate in that I imagine Vogt was on their shortlist.

I have a feeling the Brewers prefer to promote from within and have been thinking about this for some time.  Always prepare for something.  We had a plan in place when Stearns stepped down.  Erickson makes a lot of sense on the surface, although we don't know what the higher ups think of him or the players for that matter.  I've thought about Ross and Maddon.  To be honest, I don't know enough about Ross as a manager except that he's done well with difficult ownership and a partial rebuild.  I always liked that Maddon thought outside the box before most others did.  I'd also consider trying to pry away Cash.

I would be shocked if the manager search started today. I also am sure there has been discussions since Counsell's contract expired last week.
