Last three WS coaches:

  • Bruce Bochy: 68 years old. Has been a head coach since 1995. So he was about 41 when he first became a HC.  Won multiple WS
  • Joe Espada - 48 years old.
  • Brian Snitker - 68 years old (now).  Head Coach since 2016.  Was 61 when he started as HC.

Joe Espada wasn't the manager when the Astros won in 2022. Dusty Baker, 73 at the time, was.

Pat Murphy definitely knows how to handle the media, that was evident. And Rickie with one of the best introductory statements I've ever heard. It's only a press conference so I'm not going to read too much into it but I'm on board

Fair enough.  Misread Joe's start date.

Dusty Baker - 73 at the time.  Started as a HC in 1993 when he was 43.

Looks like I'm not the only one assuming Weeks is heir to the throne:

https://dairylandexpress.com/2023/11/16/former-player-eventually-manage-milwaukee-brewers/

No matter what direction the team decides to go, Murphy is probably not going to manage the Milwaukee Brewers for the next decade with the title given to Weeks. He is being groomed for the job, and once the club’s leadership feels he is ready to take over, Murphy will probably be given a new title like manager-emeritus.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I feel like you might've missed my first statement.  Of course I'm assuming.  So is everyone else on this forum since none of us are in the Brewer's FO. I'm reading between the lines.  You give the HC job to someone that might deserve it, but not a high ranking candidate and then name a potential up and comer (taking the same path as CC did) as assistant HC?  If Murphy wasn't part of that decision, he'd be looking over his shoulder constantly.

No, 70 isn't a death sentence. But Bob Uecker sitting in a booth for half of the Brewer games is irrelevant to how many head coaches have the energy and ability to coach into their 70s.

Espada was Dusty Baker's bench coach.  Dusty was 73 when he won last year with the Astros.

Rickie resorted to swearing for opening statement….wow or boy……he means business. Is that what he’s trying to convey? I get tired of that rationale. Speak clearly and make sense without others having to bleep your speech. He does realize we want to hear his words at a press conference?

I like how Matt Arnold presented Murphy with a jersey during the press conference, as if he didn't already have one.

I like the Murphy/Weeks dugout combo. As I believe Ron Robinsons Beard stated, a boring, but probably correct hire. I like the Weeks hire because people don't just get hired to do those roles with little to no experience unless insiders vouch for, and believe in their leadership abilities. Counsell was similarly groomed.

As to swearing in a public interviews, I'm tired of it. I don't like it at all. And it seems to be happening more and more. Call me old fashioned all you want, but it's jarring and inappropriate. It doesn't hype me up, it's just really really distracting and unprofessional in a public space.

Post-game/sideline impulsive profanity laced rants have there place in a limited Tommy LaSorda or Jerry Burns kinda way...but an introductory press conference?! I think it's just a little weird, actually.

I didn't watch the press conference, only heard a couple clips from it.  Was there swearing outside of the LFG or was it just that?

There was a clip of an interview Greg Matzek did with Arnold and Murphy that aired during Brewers Weekly this week.  I listened to the podcast yesterday afternoon and was impressed by Murphy, not that my liking of his answers in an interview in any way predict success.

Charlie Greene moved to bullpen coach

Does this mean he won't be working with Brewer's system catchers anymore? Because if so that'd stink seeing as how he was a catcher whisperer.

Probably not with the minor league catchers at least not after spring training.  The Brewers do like to spread out the responsibilities so he still maybe leading that instead of being the one doing the instructing.  It is impossible to tell without one of the beat writers asking this question.

Honestly, with the way coaches can work with Zoom/Video it probably doesn't make him any less effective coaching anyone in the system.

If Greene's goals are to advance in coaching in the big leagues then it's good to keep him happy and in the organization rather than him seeking work elsewhere.

This.

In addition, by now I'm guessing the other coaches understand pretty well Greene's methods and preferences. Probably ingrained into the organization by this point.
