Maybe you all are finally figuring out what some of us knew a long time ago. Mark A is cheap. Always has been, always will be. Don't even come at me with "He signed Yelich to a big contract", or the offseason 10 year deal with Chourio as reasons he is NOT cheap. Those things were things he really need to do, and if you look at the contracts, they weren't really "expensive" per say. I'm going to wait for Sveum to come along and remind us all how the payroll is higher than it's ever been as if that means he's not cheap. Hint: it doesn't. Wake me up when he actually takes a big swing(and gets them signed to a multi year deal) on a big time FA. Now others get to come along and say "if you think the Brewers can/will spend like the Yankees, you need to follow another team". Such a tired, weak argument. No one has ever said they expect them to spend like the Yankees, but they 100% certainly can do more(far more) then the crap we have been subjected too the last number of off seasons.

Hard to get excited about these moves, but oh well, it happens. Hopefully we find out soon if we are going to try and contend or go w a weird mix of vets and youngsters and go into rebuild mode.

Obligatory (and annual) it's January 3rd.

I remember 2018 when people were whining about the lack of activity on January 24th.  Then the Brewers traded for Christian Yelich signed Lorenzo Cain on the 25th.

Patience, as always.

Yeah long ways to go and we should all know by now that the MLB offseason moves painfully slow.

If this move makes you complain that the team is cheap, you are either a troll (that needs to get banned on this site) or a jackass.

The interesting thing to me about this deal is that it seems to show the Dodgers are out on Burnes and Adames.  If there was any interest in them, you would have thought they would have used Hudson as part of the deal.  I guess it could have been a mad dash of teams inquiring on Hudson and a separate deal had to be struck but I think it does shed light on any Burnes/Adames conversations with the Dodgers.

It may not signify they are cheap, but how the hell do moves like this make them better in any way? Isn't that the bottom line? Improving your ball club? How do any of the nothing deals they have done this off season thus far do anything to improve them? They don't. Good thing they don't have any black holes to fill on the roster(like1B and 3B most notably)...oh wait. Sure people can use the "who has signed anyone thus far besides the Dodgers" line, but just because no one else has, doesn't mean the Brewers couldn't have, right? There's a thing called being aggressive...something this FO is lacking, big time.

Every team makes moves like this every offseason.

Your schtick works in the Houser/Taylor trade but has nothing to do with this move.

6'8 lefty with good strikeout numbers for our 20th pick last year seems like a good deal. He only throws about 92 so maybe a little bit like Angel Perdomo, who was decent with the Pirates last year.

My point exactly...how in the hell did that trade do anything to improve the team? Take all the moves together this off season and if anything, you can make the argument they are a bit worse. They certainly aren't better. No amount of 1 year deal signings this off season will change that either.

Sounds like you prefer we take all our money to the roulette table and put it all on red. Maybe we win big? 🙂 🤷‍♂️

And what if they do win big? Scared money don't make money.

They just got a lefty reliever who had a 2.43 ERA and 86 Ks in 55 2/3 IP in AAA last year, with a "get your feet wet" appearance in the majors for nothing. How does this not improve the team?

This is not signing Ohtani. This is not trading for a future MVP. However, this guy is very likely going to see a number of MLB innings this year. He is probably going to be better than some other guy who would otherwise get those innings. That would be a help to the team.

Not every move is a big one. Moves like this help turn fringe-playoff teams into playoff teams.

Yes, we still need to make some other moves to fill other positions. What do those moves have to do with this one? This guy was available for a former 20th round draft pick, so they jumped when they had the chance. This will not have any effect on other moves the team is planning on making.

Signing a 19 year old with zero MLB service time to a record setting contract was a conservative move?

I think the issue is not knowing which direction the Brewers are ultimately going to go in 2024.  If they intend on keeping Burnes and Adames and making one last run in 2024, then fans want to see the "bigger" type of moves.  That being said, I think this type of move is just fine whatever direction they decide to go.
