Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for INF Joey Ortiz, LHP DL Hall and 2024 Competitive Balance Pick

Lol the Santana & Canha deals were good, signing Wade Miley last year was good. Acquiring Payamps, Peguero, & Megill last year really helped the bullpen. Honestly what moves has he made that ended up outright bad? Even the Wong for Winker deal just ended up trash for trash

Getting Wilson, Rea and Perkins for free was another four wins for nothing.

You mean you aren't going to jump to conclusions and act like you didn't just look up who both of these players are in the last 10 minutes and become an MLB scout like 80% of the responders here? Interesting move..

Why have a message board at all if you aren't allowed to have opinions on a big trade.

Well we traded Houser and Taylor which led to signing Hoskins. If this leads to a free agent acquisition or two, I will be okay with it. There are a lot of guys we could get with 15 million.

Now if this deal was done to afford Rhys, I will be annoyed and confused.

You can't get a bigger impact for $15.6 million than Burnes was to give you.

This is very true. Burnes is a huge, huge lose.

Team playing the long game. Let's hope it pays off.

In the minor leagues, Joey Ortiz hit the ball 114.9 mph in 2023, something only 30 major leaguers did in the bigs this past season, and he did it with a better-than-average strikeout rate and good defense. He could end up playing third or second for the Brewers this year, or even be in the mix for shortstop with Bryce Turang if Milwaukee continues to reboot and sends Willy Adames somewhere (Los Angeles?).

We have to start trading guys with two years of control to get a better return. You just have to wonder why sign Hoskins if Burnes was getting traded soon after

There are good reasons why the Vegas win total for the Brewers was 78.5 before this trade.

Show us your under bet slip.

Because the Brewers FO thinks the sum total of all moves made so far (and maybe even some yet to be made) will allow them to remain competitive in 2024 while also increasing their chances of competing in 2025 and beyond.

I don't bet against the Brewers but it does go to show that this team isn't well thought of.

If competitive means winning somewhere between 75 and 85 games great but I would think the goal should be to win a World Series for the first time in team history.

I don't care because I don't know anything about these guys and even if I did, I have no idea how they'll be as they mature in the majors. And it was just one year of Burnes, so can't expect to get their top three prospects or anything.

I'll miss Burnes, though. Like him a lot. (I mean, he's not dead or anything, so I can still watch him.)

The Brewers could trade Chourio for a ham sandwich and you would find a way to defend it.

The Woodruff injury is an absolute killer. If he was still around and healthy I would be good with this team as is but man... brutal

Yeah that injury was devastating to the future especially because I think we would have had a chance to sign him long term.
