I dont understand why Yelich being DH is still being mentioned on here.... Arnold said Yelich will be in LF, I dont see him being in DH spot much this season.

I know it will depend on how the roster looks when we break camp... But if we are facing a RHP wouldn't we much rather have a defensive outfield of Chourio, Mitchell, and Frelick AND add the extra left handed bat to the lineup?

I guess not, according to what MA said earlier this winter.... When Yeli is playing, he'll be in LF.

Yes exactly. I would prefer Yelich to get more complete days off to make sure he is fresh throughout the season.

I didn't realize Arnold had said that(not everyone follows every word the GM said publicly so closely), so in that case it's probably fair to assume early on Yelich will be in left. At the end of the day, Arnold isn't in charge of the lineup card. There are a lot of reasons that Yelich could DH more and play LF less. It would be quite stupid to DH Mitchell or Chourio for example and have Yelich out there. So if our outfield bats start spanking the ball like I'm hoping, it becomes a fairly straight-forward decision to DH Yelich a fair amount.

I totally agree with this. It's fine to say he's in LF everyday... until he isn't.

Maybe it is just because his name is mentioned a lot in this Thread, but I see a lot of Yelich in this swing. Bat placement, leg load, etc.

What I don't see is any counsell in that stance

What does Curt Hogg know that we don't know?  I highly doubt Wiemer's opening day roster is secure...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Joey Wiemer told reporters he’s fine after making an early exit from Thursday’s game against the White Sox.

Wiemer checked out fine after being shaken up a bit on a play near the right-field wall defensively during Thursday’s Cactus League affair. The 25-year-old outfielder has gotten off to a frosty start at the dish, but his spot on Milwaukee’s season-opening roster appears to be secure.

He’s right handed? It will be interesting to see who breaks camp with Milwaukee.

I’d think Wiemer would most benefit from time in Nashville.

If he is changing his swing/approach at the plate I hope he gets as many at bats as possible to start the season. So I agree with you.

Batting average is a nonsense stat from a previous stone age era.

But he's hitting .160 in spring training.

Those two sentences appear to contradict one another

While batting average may not be the only OR most important stat … it does matter & it is significant … IMHO 😊

I should have used the blue font for that first sarcastic sentence.

For Wiemer, I'm looking at k rate above all else. Spring stats are a tiny sample and progression is probably more important than overall results right now. But I'm seeing a 30% k rate right now. A change that significant for a guy that hasn't reeeeeeally established himself yet, AAA makes a ton of sense. Having him playing once every 3-4 days would be a disservice to the player and the Brewers long term. Wiemer with the power could be great if the swing changes work for him, but having him sit on the bench kinda takes the chance away from him.

Imo, he 100% needs to start at AAA until he is comfortable with that new swing.  No sense in getting random at bats, maybe 3 or 4 a week, and sit on the bench the rest of the time.

At this point, I'd rather Perkins starts out on the opening day roster and go from there.

Wiemer needs seasoning, what he was doing last year won't work on the big squad, so he needs to fix his issues in AAA.

I have watched a few at bats and although his hands are much more quiet before toe touch, he still has a propensity to flatten his bat too much.  This is evident when he takes pitches.  Basically his back elbow connects with his body dropping the top hand flattening the bat.  I haven't done much more analysis, but I'm guessing that is why his whiff rate is close to 30% and his average is so low.

Hopefully he figures it out.  I agree -- he should start out at AAA and get the rest of his swing fixed.

Yelich has gotten more than 1/3 of his at bats at DH this year, including more than half the games in July and all of the last 5 games. How dare we talk about this in the offseason though. MA clearly made the unequivocally firm decision in February that when Yeli is playing, he'll be in LF.
