Correct. He had a bad concussion on defense. IIRC he was running out and slid hard feet first. He played for Team Canada several years later but was never able to play in the majors again.

Koskie had awful post concussion syndrome and dealt with the awfulness of sports doctors at their peak.

Yeah, I'm probably misremembering, but I thought he was playing 3rd and landed hard on his tailbone trying to catch a soft pop up over his head.

It was a Texas leaguer he overran and dove backwards.

He got his glove on the ball but when that hit the ground, the ball popped straight up into the air into the waiting glove of Bill Hall.

It was an incredible play, and it ended Koskie's career.

Atlanta pitchers allowed a season high 20 hits & at least 16 hits in all three games against the Brewers - the first time that’s happened to the Braves in 90 years (the 1934 Boston Braves)

Its hard to believe this team continues to keep doing this with the rotation they have.  Just digging into the  team pitching numbers, I think I see why.

Brewers ERA is 3.77 (5th in the league), but the FIP is 4.37 (25th in the league). No other team is even close to a 60 point improvement from FIP to ERA.  Their defense is really good but its even more effective because the the pitchers make use of that defense.

They pitch to contact. Their K/9 innings (8.2) is 23rd out of 30 teams.  They are roughly average in giving up baserunners (WHIP is 1.262) and they are bottom five in giving up HRs.  So their pitching as a whole is unremarkable (not meant as a dig). The defense makes the difference.

That's nothing to take away from the incredible improvement in hitting from last year to this year.  The brewers are 6th in baseball in Runs per game and 8th in OPS.  The young hitters deserve a lot of credit. Their improvement in OPS and the great defense they are providing is what is keeping this team in first place.

Best run differential in the Nl and 2nd in baseball 12 behind the Yankees.

Who knows. Maybe if the umps didn't blow that blatant interference by Judge against us earlier this year we would have the best run differential in the MLB on August 10th

That specific call still bothers me to this day … & I like Judge EXCEPT for that blatant “cheat” play

I love how Devin has them thinking changeup and then he blows the fastball by them.

It’s one thing for the Brewers to be good, which they undeniably have been. It’s a whole other thing to be good AND lucky — like losing three of four and expanding their division lead. Team of destiny!

A year ago the Brewers were 65-56 with a 2.5-game division lead and (per Fangraphs) 63 percent division odds and a .505 remaining strength of schedule.

Today the Brewers are 69-52 with a 9-game division lead, 95 percent division odds, and a .500 remaining strength of schedule.

Oh, and the division is stronger this year. The other four teams are a collective 14 games under .500, compared to 34 under a year ago today.

The Split with the Rich boys out west has gotten me a bit stoked. they really have a tough of August Schedule

But they seem to find a way to survive and  another teat with clev with one of the Best Records in the game but not as nearly as good playing away from Ohio.
