Bauers has proven over his major league career that he’s…..not a major league player. His one strength of first base defense is mitigated with him in the outfield. His strike out rate is unsustainable. Chourio is twenty, 1000 times more talented, and a better outfield defender. He needs to play through ups and downs to get better, not be benched for a replacement level player. Furthermore he was starting to take pitches very well and was raising his batting average in the week before this benching.

How Chourio has performed in his first month as the youngest player in the league should not merit a knee jerk reaction to an almost week long benching. He is known for making fantastic and effective adjustments throughout his career. Bauers is…..not known for that.

Everything you said is true for the long-term outlook.  The question was why one was playing a lot now and the other not so much... What they are doing at the moment is what is meriting the playing time.

This feels like the type of inning where the opponent tacks on after a disappointing bottom half. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyone who's watched Chourio's ABs over the last two weeks or so can see some pretty big steps forward in terms of AB quality. K rate has dovetailed to less than 10%. Not many XBHs yet, but he's also been hitting the ball harder than he ever has. Chourio was paid $80 million to get ABs and figure it out at the big league level. Not to be relegated to a bench role after one month.

If anyone needs to go down to get back on track, it's Frelick...

Chourio's salary shouldn't dictate what they do with him.  If going to AAA to get some ABs and not drag the team offense down, then so be it.  The MLB is in win mode.

Yeah, that wasn't a hanging curve. It was a curve, yes, but it wasn't hanging.

You're right.  It was a hanging slider.

He needs several days off. He's a 4th OF for a reason.

And play who? The problem is most of the outfield is struggling. Yelich is a lock and giving Chourio ABs is always a good thing but then its Frelick or Perkins. Bauers can play OF but I much prefer him in 1B because of the defense.

Nah……I’m not buying that……if he can’t be called on to pinch hit because he’s a 20 year old…..then send him down.

cant take a pitch right down the middle in that situation……anybody else would get roasted……I’m not giving him a pass.

You're not doing it right if you sit Chourio on the bench only to bring him into face the other team's nastiest reliever.

It was a tough pitch in that situation because Romero's giving him all sinkers and changeups and then puts that in there with his ability to tunnel.

I'll blame Chourio because you probably still should fight it off, but I blame Murphy more for putting him in that spot after sitting him for 4 straight games.

So all this complaining about Frelick and Perkins but who do we replace them with?

Chourio is an obvious choice, then who?

Not that I don't agree, watching them gags me, but what are our options?

We just have so many black holes in this line up right now, and Murphy isn't helping matters by assigning Ortiz and Chourio to bench duty on most nights.

As we found out when Yelich was hurt, him not being in the line-up hurts, REALLY HURTS this team.

Yeah, nothing about that pitch was hanging. Should probably stick to RealGM.

Chourio's salary should most definitely dictate what they do with him....To pretend otherwise is naive.

Also, there's other players who are doing an equally good job of "dragging the team offense down".

Yeah it wasn't hanging. It was 3-2 count so he had to throw one in the zone.

I'm sorry Chourio... we can't make the right decisions to develop you.  We simply paid too much.

Surely, he is going to get more opportunities than just about anyone else on the team, but that doesn't mean they can't have him get a bit more playing time at AAA this year if that is what he needs.

Now, I've not seen many games this week to see how he looks, but Chourio is our long term success.  We need to do what is best to get him there without sinking the ship this year.

Hoky smokes, can't we just say he was fooled by the pitch?!

Both things can be true.  He was fooled by a hanging slider.

You answered it already. You play Yelich, Chourio and Bauers for now. You demote Frelick and keep Perkins as the 4th OF. You promote Black for 1B purposes. When Yelich needs DH days, Perkins plays CF. Same thing when you need to make 1B upgrades.

I’m sure the board would have loved Murphy if he would have kept Sal in the lineup to face a lefty with the bases loaded
