Welp.. got home from work and turned the game on, that worked..

Excellent start from Gasser with 6+ scoreless innings. Hudson locks down the opposition in relief for the 7th and 8th innings. Offense shows up with a 5 spot in the 8th inning. Able to use Milner to finish off the 9th inning. Nearly a perfect start to a four game series against the division rivals. Sweet to win the first games in Chicago and Milwaukee versus Counsell’s team.

Oh no Adames swung 3-0!!!!! Watch out the baseball purists are going to come in and say this is not how you play baseball!!!!! You must take 3-0!!!!!

This was one of the few times I was actually hoping he got something to hit because Sanchez after him was an automatic double play if he hit it on the ground.

Unless he hit it at Madrigal.

Hate Contreras leading off. Adames hitting 3? Ugh. I guess it could be worse.

I didn't see the game how did it work out today?

“ 0-0 late……the brewers have been beating us in those games for 6 straight years now…..I used to think the manager had a lot to do with that……it’s starting to look like that isn’t the case”

enjoy…..starts at the 9 minute mark

Also what makes a power hitter?

Fun to think about. Guess it all depends around where one wants to draw that arbitrary line.

Sorting by ISO+ (isolated slugging adjusted for ballpark/league run environment) on the all time Brewers  right handed hitter leaderboard (min. 500 PA) it looks like the homegrown guys at least 20% above average are…

Gorman Thomas (180 ISO+), Khris Davis (170 ISO+), Ryan Braun (150 ISO+), Greg Vaughn (149 ISO+), Corey Hart (138 ISO+), Sixto Lezcano (138 ISO+), Tyrone Taylor (130 ISO+), Bill Schroeder (130 ISO+), Joey Meyer (128 ISO+), John Jaha (125 ISO+) and Keston Hiura (124 ISO+).

Guys like Bill Hall (118 ISO+) and Rickie Weeks (115 ISO+) come in just below that threshold and were definitely power hitters for their positions, though maybe a little more borderline in an absolute sense.

That was epic … great to see Cubbie podcasters so disgruntled & unimpressed with Counsell so soon 💪

I’m not sure why I didn’t know this but apparently Hudson toiled in the Cubs farm system for 8 years……..before moving to the Dodgers as a minor league free agent.

got to love it…….

Both Hudson and Megill were in the Cubs org post-pandemic. That's our 2 best RP this year.

I never much cared for the way Counsell delt with the pitchers.  Both starters and relievers, he went way overboard with his righty lefty matchups to the point where your putting in a crappy pitcher just because he is a lefthanded pitcher. Andrew Chafin is just one who comes to mind.

They said everything is status quo and robotic with Counsell's ideas as a manager.  He never does anything to shake things up for the team to get them going. He just can't think out of the box as a manager.

Can't say I disagree with them. The last couple of years he really turned into a cookie cutter manager like 90% of them.

Yes, plus we already scored to take the lead. That might make you squeeze the bat handle just a little bit less & relax. But from the postgame interview I thought Adames said he doesn't usually like swinging 3-0.

I can't argue with the results. Hell, I would've let Perkins hit instead of using Frelick. It was still a 0-0 game & he's a click better in CF than Frelick, plus Leiter would've turned him over to the left side where he's a better hitter. Good thing I wasn't consulted today.😛

Good win.

Gasser pitch an excellent ballgame.  Jackson with a couple of nice solid hits and driving in a run.  Adames clutch HR.

Let's get at least one more to to guarantee a split.
