Sanchez probably saw that the contact play was on and feared a ground ball would result in a home to first double play.

But two runners in scoring position and two strikeouts. This pitcher is really good. Or our offense is bad.

More like he didn’t want to be the goat and felt his best chance of getting on base was with the bunt….I still struggle with his explanation by his locker.
