Devin is going to be the closer………now if Devin comes back and struggles that’s a different conversation but you need 2 high leverage guys anyway…..just like when we had Devin and Hader.

They just aren’t going to take Devin out of the closing role because of injury…….Megill will still get opportunities to close games.

3-4 was my expectation going into this road trip, but man how they went about going 3-4 was highly frustrating with the bullpen having 3 of the 4 losses. Big win today to avoid the sweep. Yelich looks like he's back. He's starting to do damage on a nightly basis again. Hopefully Contreras, Hoskins, Adames can follow suit.

Shoutout Peguero who I think had his best pitch execution of the season today. When he's locating his stuff like that he's nearly unhittable. Also shoutout Haase who had a great game both at the plate and behind the plate. His receiving looked a lot better than what Contreras has been offering lately.

Brewers will use Williams in the closers role so they can increase his trade value.

Or because he’s been the best reliever in the National league for the last 2 years and has earned the job.

Both can be considered correct

Very true, Williams has been great, expect him to be the closer when he returns and for him to be traded in the off season.

I'll be honest, I don't think Williams pitching in the 8th or 9th inning for the last 60+ games of the year will have any impact whatsoever on his trade value in the offseason. He's been the best RP in the MLB (Clase the only other guy with an argument) since he debuted. Him showing he's healthy and 100% is all that matters for his trade value.

I'm just now watching the condensed game on MLBTV. I didn't realize we had so many guys run out on the bases. Wow. But we won, so..."whatever"! 🙂

We have to wait and see, setup man, closer, because

Megill/Williams Combo.

Is way better than using Payamps or Peguero as the setup man for Megill as we do it now.

A good problem to have IMHO.

Great series for fans of run differential...... I watched the game today & I still have a hard time believing I saw a pitcher go 4.1 scoreless innings vs the Dodgers while dealing with as many 2-0, 3-0, 3-1 counts as Kuechel did. Pretty incredible. On the surface it looks like his starts are going to be a thrill ride w/no seat belt. But honestly, he had a LOT of pitches that missed by a couple inches, and LA was taking them like they were 2 feet off the plate. A team not as disciplined, or even a "wider" umpire and the 5 walks might've been only a couple. But to be sure, he missed his spots quite a bit too. Would like to see the results if/when he can work from ahead.

Weird start to the season from Mitchell. He's certainly showing much better plate discipline. His walk today after starting out 0-2 was impressive. But when he IS getting a pitch to hit, nothing's jumping off his bat at all. Just have to wait & see when he settles into 50-75 ABs, He needed that one to squirt by the 3B, maybe it gets him going.

No one can complain about a Sunday lineup. All the stars played-----Ohtani, Freeman, Smith, Haase, Capra........

I thought Peguero looked terrific (forget the opponent) maybe 10 days or so ago, then went back to his dark place. Maybe the emergence sticks this time.

Haase & Capra both contributed nicely, on both ends. I felt bad for him when they were running wild & Keuchel was allowing ridiculous leads/jumps.

You're probably right, but for what I feel is the wrong reason...at least that last part. Keeping a player in a role because he's "earned it" is old school and poor management. It's like paying for the 32 year old that was a star...but you know the decline is coming. Williams will probably get the closer job(probably after one or two low leverage situations to get his feet under him), if he looks sharp, because Williams at his best is one of the best relievers in baseball for a multi-year stretch AND because he has a lot of experience in the role. If Williams is not 90% or more of what he was at peak...he won't(or shouldn't) get put back in the closer role. If he comes out with low velocity, bad command, poor movement on the changeup, or any other performance inhibitor...he shouldn't just automatically get flung into the closers role.

Great post, I agree 100%. With just coming back you have to see where he is first. He definitely will be a little rusty. Baby steps after an injury is the norm.
