It’s amazing how the nationals have even lost a game this year.    Let alone 60

Because their pitchers have given up the 6th most runs per game in all of baseball?

Montas is pitching fine.  The issue is when your offense can't score more than three runs in any given game, that puts a lot of pressure on your pitching.

For being knocked around it looks like Montas should be able to get through 6 innings.

Well.   I assume we will get 8 runs tonight instead of are usual 2-3

3 runs in 5 innings is an offensive issue?

This isn't specifically about you at all, and there's definitely some success stories that came from the Brewers pitching lab, but I always find it a little insulting to other pitching coaches that we assume our guys can just pick up a guy like Montas and "fix" him in a few starts.

I mean the guy in charge of fixing him this entire season was Derek Johnson, and we thought he walked on water when he had a Brewer uniform on.

Yea, I get that.  Every once in a while you get the change of scenery, pitching philosophy, or pitch usage that sparks something.  I think Montas has a little more arm talent than some of the other starter options we have, that leads me to want to give it a chance.  I don’t think he’s a washed up reclamation project type.

I do hope you are proven correct.

I just don’t know how much more Jake Bauers I can endure.

Spoiler

He has the same OPS as the DH the Pirates acquired.

But the Pirates are trying.

Pitch usage is a very legitimate reason.  As I posted before, his cutter is -6.9 runs above average, by far his worst pitch.

Guess what pitch he threw to Abrams for the home run?

Yeah, whoever is calling pitches, maybe not call his worst pitch against an All-Star with a runner on base?

Montas was not good tonight. I get that people want badly to try to believe in the acquisition but I cannot believe that anyone thought he pitched "fine" tonight.
