I've been hard on Murphy so when he pushes the right button I'll give him props. Now don't get greedy with Montas.

Murphy can't help himself.

I just don’t know how much more Jake Bauers I can endure.

I get he's decent defensively but he should have been moved one way or another and Bell should have been added especially if it ends up we don't have yelich for a long time

Montas was not good tonight. I get that people want badly to try to believe in the acquisition but I cannot believe that anyone thought he pitched "fine" tonight.

I generally ignore the first game a pitcher pitches.  I'm sure we work on evaluations on pitches and combinations with him... I'm more interested on how he does in the next two or three.  See what changes are made, how he executes as he gets more comfortable.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

And that is the Brewer version of trying at the deadline.

If we're judging based on one game, he pitched better than the Cardinals starter acquisition did today.

And the Nationals score more runs per game than the Cubs do.

What did Contreras say to the 2b?

I just passed you for HRs Luis!

And I hope Fedde continues to struggle. But he definitely had the far better body of work for this season, so there's a little more reason to believe better days ahead while with Montas, this is kind of who he's been all season.

In other words, not judging by one game.

I can definitely understand that. Hopefully there are better starts ahead. Just don't understand anyone trying to rationalize that he pitched well when that clearly wasn't the case.

I think it's a matter of semantics.  Some people interpret "not bad" as "well".

"Not bad" is not "well".  It's "not bad".  There's "bad", there's "well", and there's a space in between that is neither.

Some people think seven singles is "knocked around"; others think singles are as much luck as anything.

Josh Bell homered to tie the Bucs 7-7.

Crazy that the Pirates have never won the division. Ever. NL Central that is.

For Montas I’d say 5 IP | 2 ER or even a good old fashioned “quality start” of 6 IP | 3 ER  is about the best we can hope for so that would qualify as good.

5 IP | 3 ER is about his median so I’d say that’s fine.

Any fewer innings or more runs than that gets into bad territory.

Also, CHOURIO!!

I can agree with that for the most part.  The question is whether that improved the team versus what they have and/or what they gave up to get him.
