Playing the Dodgers and Phillies just makes it hard to get excited for the playoffs. There is such a major gap between these teams, it isn’t close. Now 1-6 vs them.

Turang's wRC+ is down to 89 after that last strikeout.

What a nosedive after a few good months

Why is he still batting at the top of the lineup?

There are those that are convinced we have no better options.

In 7 games against the Dodgers and Phillies this year the Brewers have been outscored by 6 total runs. You're acting like the Brewers are getting blown out in these games. These are mostly close games we are losing. We aren't getting our teeth kicked in.

Anyone that didn't have flashbacks to Adam Wainwright watching our ABs tonite is very forgetful. A classic case of swinging at balls, taking strikes, constantly being one step behind in the at-bat mentally, and guessing w/two strikes, which might be worst of all. If I could compare these two teams tonite based on one at-bat for each team, I'd look at Betts' RBI to make it 5-2. He KNEW what Hudson was going to do, adjusted the approach accordingly, yet (admittedly) was quick enough to spoil off something inside & stay alive if need be. Frustrating, but a great plan. Contrast that with Adames following a leadoff double by not only rolling over a grounder to the left side, but doing so on the first pitch. Just mentally vacant.

I have no idea what we're going to do in the late innings if tied or trailing in the next week or two when there's a LHP out there.

Doesn't help that the lineup was totally set up to fail. Turang and Mitchell leading off because according to Murphy Kershaw has reverse splits in his 4 games this year....Monasterio should have started at 2B and Mitchell and Frelick should have been 7 and 9 in the order only because we had to play them as Perkins was on the IL and we called up a LHH 1B to replace him for whatever reason.

It appears Murphy is in that group … unfortunately

I've been a backer of Turang in the leadoff spot, and wouldn't be surprised if he's proficient in that role moving forward in his career. Obviously that isn't happening now, and just as obviously he shouldn't be up there against a LH starter. Tonight Murphy didn't go with his strange batting order vs lefties that he'd been employing, and I think it was to keep from bunching LHH at the bottom 3-4 spots. He wanted to split the L & R somewhat, which I probably wouldn't have done. Mitchell hitting 3rd was every bit as bad as Turang leading off tonight. I really think Murphy was trying to avoid having to go to the bench by splitting. It didn't work.

Yeah, as I said above they're really hamstrung vs a LHP, both in the lineup & bench options. The reverse splits thing is negated by the fact that Mitchell, vs an experienced lefty w/command, has no chance. I'd give Turang a better chance vs a Kershaw, but not much. It was a night to go with the goofy order he's been going with vs lefties, hopefully get some production, then punt the bottom 3-4 spots and maybe they're lucky enough to see a righty.

If Haase isn't able to play on a night like tonight why is he even here? Why do we have three catchers if you can never play them in the same game. Let's stop messing around and get another righty outfielder so we can be competitive against lefties. Insane roster construction.

So Murphy cited Kershaw having reverse splits this year for why Turang and Mitchell hit 1 and 3 in the order....Kershaw doesn't even have reverse splits this year lmao

Agree re the roster construction. They got away w/the 3 catchers, in part, due to having a switch-hitter you can employ in the OF, or as a PH if not in the lineup. He's gone for now, and Black is a curious replacement, even if he CAN play the OF.

Haase has played some OF but I'm sure they don't want to put him out there, and I don't really blame them. They've had three catchers for a while now, gotten some production from all three, and wanted to keep doing that dance to avoid losing one. I think it's time to stop dancing.

.......and even if he did have reverse splits, it's not possible to look at Mitchells' recent ABs vs Sale and think he was going to have success vs someone as experienced as Kershaw. I'd give Turang slightly better odds but if you're playing him he should not have been leading off.

The Phils didn't swing the bats great against us, but when we played them I firmly believe they can't pitch or defend any better than they did those three days. Some of the plays they made, and the at 'em balls the 3rd game, were ridiculous.

Good news is that the Cards/Cubs/Pirates all lost so we didn't lose any ground.

Can't judge a series on 1 game.

A team can win the championship by being just 1 game over .500 in the World Series.

This is incredibly contrasting to the name "blighty". I'd almost be disappointed if I didn't completely agree

Even though both teams had 6 hits and the score was not a blowout something looked amiss.  We are lucky we are in one of the weaker divisions. The NL and AL Central are probably the 2 weakest divisions. Lets just not have our asses handed to us today with our best pitcher on the mound.

I'd rather us lose to these good teams now, than lose to them in the playoffs. Yeah our record isn't good against them now, but that really doesn't mean anything in baseball. We just have to be hot during the playoffs and anything can happen.

Do people just ignore the AL West?  That is a bad division. The NL Central isn't worse than the AL East or the NL West.  The Marlins and Rockies both count as MLB teams.

The Brewers didn’t lose because of Mitchell and Turang being at the top of the lineup. They lost because the Dodgers two best hitters (Betts and Ohtani) combined for 2 homers and 5 rbi.

Brewers are a pitching and defense team, when they don’t pitch and/or play defense they usually lose.

You Cherry Pick Two bad teams in baseball and that is your squabble?

Isn't the Yankees and Orioles in the AL East?

Aren't the Dodgers, SD and Arizona in the NL West

Isn't Houston in the AL West that made the playoffs 8 of the past 10 years and won the WS just 2 years ago?

I guess I'm missing the point of this argument. Are you crapping on the Brewers because they play in what you believe is a weak division? Because that really wasn't their choice. it isn't like the Brewers have just been getting fat by beating up on NL Central opponents.
