Hoskins is 7 for 53 with 19k. Almost unplayable right now with his average at best defense.

And the underlying numbers have been horrific for 3 months. Unless he finds his early season form between now and the playoffs, hard to justify keeping him in a playoff lineup especially with his bad 1B defense

Trueblood is a Cubs fan - can’t be trusted

I wish he only wrote articles for their website

I don’t read his material

That's a shame. He writes some absolutely fantastic stuff. I can separate the two as he has deep roots with Baseball Prospectus - he's a Head. I just found that particular article and headline borderline hilarious. It was such a silly thing to proclaim.

Nice stress free bounce back inning from DW, but can't say I love seeing his FB down at 93-94 after seeing it 95-97 when he first came off the IL.

Maybe he was dialing it back a little after all the walks in his last outing?
It will be something to monitor but he has proven he can be elite even in that 94 range the last few years.

I'm not worried that he won't be effective because like you said he's been effective at 94mph in the past. I'm worried that this left shoulder issue that held him out during the A's series might be something that could linger or that his back is sore again.

The Brewers have allowed the third fewest runs in all of MLB baseball. I find that patently insane given the nature of this 2024 season. I mean, that's just incredible.

The offense on the other hand? Teetering at Top 10. Still entirely too streaky for my liking. Tonight a prime example. Big five-run inning and then nothing. Man, I miss healthy Yelich so much. He was a rock in this line-up. He is sorely missed.

Especially insane because our pitching staff has given up the 6th most HR in the MLB and are 21st in K% and 15th in BB%. So lots of HR, not a lot of strikeouts, and average amount of walks into being very good at suppressing runs makes virtually no sense.

How are we on defensive runs prevented?

Defensive runs saved front and center……..take a bow.

Agreed. Hence, patently insane. I can't make all that much sense of it. AND, yet, for the most part the results are there. It's been such a confounding season as a whole. And, yet, here we are.

I mean that's some but I feel like the HR luck in terms of when we are giving up HR has been extremely fortunate. I did it a while back but relative to the amount of HR we have hit (and we are bottom half of the league in HR) we have way more 3-run HR and grand slams than our pitchers have given up. A lot of the HR damage has been 1 and 2 run HR which for how many HR we have given up mostly seems like good fortune than skill.

Bauers has been the better option for a while. I would bench him and hope he gets ticked off and opts out.

I agree, at the very least they should split the time at 1st base.

Chourio in his current form plus healthy Yelich is a very exciting thought for next year..

Losing Adames will sting though especially with how good his bat has been this season.

Our defense has pulled back 7 of them……only 1 team has more and the next highest is 3…(according to the tv graphic tonight)…I’m sure there is some luck involved…….luck is a huge factor in almost every aspect of baseball…….it’s what makes it so compelling and so frustrating……depending on the day…….lol

Absolutely. I've been thinking about this a bunch lately. Our best complete SS in the system is quite easily Cooper Pratt (barring unforeseen meteoric rises from Made and Pena). BUT, he's at least two years away from consideration by my eyes. EBJ just isn't ready - despite the plus defense his swing is an absolute quagmire at present that just does not play at the MLB level (let alone Double-A). It's going to have to be a group effort but you just can't replace his clutch power bat. It's a bit of a unicorn. Despite his ongoing defensive woes (which seem quite fixable and silly), his bat is so absolutely colossally huge for the offense. That just doesn't grow on trees.

Sort of expected Hoskins to be above replacement level this season. -0.3 WAR is jarring
