It almost feels like clinching the division was their ceiling.  We'll be lucky if we don't limp into the post season.

Yes and Chourio is really getting banged up lately,  I might even sit him for at least one game and let him get back to 100%.

I’m in the small minority but this doesn’t bother me at all

I don’t think these games are a precursor of the future.

I agree, the sky is not falling.

It would be nice for some good showings, but there is still some time to turn it up before the post season.

Keep everyone healthy and fresh the last week or so, that is all I want, then we'll see what happens.

It is their ceiling. The Dbacks are the better team and it's not really debatable. The Brewers are a product of playing in a bad division. If they played in the East or West they wouldn't even sniff the playoffs.  Maybe in time as they get older that will change.  But it ain't this year.

The part I highlighted is most important to me, Chourio in the last 2 weeks turned his ankle then twisted his knee and whatever happened to him tonight.

It's actually crazy how deep the Dbacks roster is. 12 of the 14 players on their active roster have a wRC+ of 100 or better. The 2 who don't are Kevin Newman a glove first utility infielder and Jose Herrera a backup catcher.

Compare that to the Brewers who only have 6 players on the active roster with a wRC+ of 100 or better and one of them is Eric Haase with his 59 PA who is way overperforming his underlying numbers.

Just a lot of good ABs tonite from a team playing for its' postseason life. Frustrating because it's our opponent, but very impressive. Some hard contact, lots of soft contact that went their way, & decent pitches fouled off w/very little chasing. I think the bases loaded walk by Koenig was a good example. He turned in good work there but the AB was simply better. I don't know if we chased an inordinate amount of the time, but compared to the D-Backs work at the plate it looked ugly. When they mix in the seeing-eye stuff, that's a difficult lineup to get through.

I totally feel like the best is ahead in '25 and behind and this year is still kind of house money. But I really, really want to at least get to the NLDS and give the Phils or Dodgers a challenging series. I'm not ready for another quick exit and I think we need that experience.

Probably a dumb analogy but there was a kids' board game years ago called Chutes & Ladders. if you landed on a lucky space, you got to climb a ladder & jumped ahead several spaces from where you'd otherwise be. I think of that when seeing where this team is right now. Great personnel moves, nice performances from some unexpected sources, but to get twenty-some games over .500 at this point w/o Yelich or a clear-cut #1 starter they jumped a ladder or two. Which is a lot of fun. Now we need to see some late season, nothing-to-lose hunger.

Sanchez over Haase must be examined.

Pretty similar hitters. If they had close to the same # of ABs I think you'd find Haase would show a lot more swing and miss than Sanchez. Between the two they're going with the more proven bat, which I can understand.

Isaac Collins and whoever the other guy named Brewer was that we had on our roster for a week or two earlier this month are harsh reminders that not everyone has the depth of big market teams like the Dodgers.

For all the position player talent on the farm Black was the only 'prospect' type that was imminent for the big league club this year. When he didn't impress, we were left with AAAA types.

What you said is true right now but to be fair the Brewers have done well.  You have to count home grown players like Jackson Chourio, Tobias Meyers, Aaron Ashby and Garrett Mitchell developed by the Brewers. Also our trades.  We traded Corbin Burns away for a whole bunch of very good players.  Also, the trade that got Contreras over here to the Brewers.  Look at the Chicago Cubs, there payroll is over double the Brewers and that is not even counting Craig Counsell's 40 million dollar contract.

Record vs. above-.500 teams:

MIL 47-37 (.560)

ARI 39-45 (.464)

PHI 45-36 (.556)

LAD 46-40 (.535)

Definitely just the weak division (which has more wins than the NL East, BTW), though.

Not ideal to have the last week+ worth of games meaning pretty much nothing but hope they do give rest for those that need it. Hopefully they can turn it back on in 10 days against these Diamondbacks or Mets.

Unless we have the next Devin Williams and Adames waiting in the wings in the minors it won't be next season either.  We all better just enjoy this year.  I doubt we'll get past the WC round next month.  This is the reality when your team is near the bottom when it comes to pay roll in MLB.

People said the same thing about this year but replace Williams and Adames with Burnes and Woodruff.

There is also no guarantee they trade Devin on a reasonable one year deal, they could choose to take the production and comp pick like they are lined up to do with Adames this year.

Even if Williams is dealt, the bullpen managed an 80 ERA- (4th) and +8.87 WPA (2nd) in the 104 games before his first appearance of the season.

The team should be even better next season.

Further maturation from Mitchell-Ortiz-Turang-Frelick-Perkins-Contreras and especially Chourio, combined with a healthy Woodruff, full seasons from Ashby-Civale, Hoskins another year removed from his knee injury, and a full-offseason to fix their only major weakness, 3B, should lead to one of the best teams in baseball.
