You work your butt off to get to the playoffs and the first game.   The first game you play Bauers.    My god.   It’s so tiring

And start Peralta - equally frustrating

You're right, it's not rocket science. A hitter like Bauers shouldn't be hitting in the 6 spot of a playoff game, plain and simple.

He's DH'ing, so literally any of Perkins, Sanchez, or Haase would have been better. You don't have to go R/L all the way down the lineup.

Look at the lineup for both teams. Other than switch hitters in the Mets both teams are R-L-R-L it’s just the way most teams do it especially in the post season.

Any manager would have Peralta starting today…

Eh, I dunno. He fouled it up and directly back. He had the pitch timed, was just a little under it.

It's baseball, it happens. Frustrating but hardly the dumbest thing ever.

Yeah, the whole "it's just random baseball stuff" isn't something I subscribe to for anything and everything which is popular on this board.  It was a poor AB given the context around it.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

If he would have hit a first pitch grand slam you wouldn’t be saying that lol. Such hindsight

I wouldn't be saying anything. I would be comatose from the shock.

I can’t believe people are defending putting an under .200 hitter in the starting lineup of a playoff game.  He’s the DH! Why keep the extra catcher if one isn’t going to DH?  I’d rather see Perkins DH, and I’m not a fan of his bat

R-L-R-L. If you don’t like Bauers there, what’s your alternative keeping the alternating side batter intact?

Where is it written in stone that we must, at all costs, follow that line of thinking?

It's just stupid when that leads to Jake Bauers starting a playoff game hitting behind Adames.  Adames might not see anything to hit all game...

I'm posting this, hoping against all hope that I jinx myself, and Bauers has a big hit in him at some point in this game.  🙃

What rule says you have to go R-l,-R-L

But for switch hitters the Mets are R-L-R-L too. Maybe a strategy thing so there’s no spot to easily bring in a pitcher with splits

I just won't fault a guy for having a pitcher's timing down and taking his shot on the first pitch. Had he swung on a pitch that bounced or was a foot out of the zone I'd be more upset.

It won’t happen.  He will be pinch hit for.   He sucks.     Time to move on and find some runs somewhere

Peralta throws so many non-competitive pitches. So many.

And his non-competitive pitches mis by a foot.

It’s okay if someone says “I don’t like Bauers” but to feign ignorance and post “why is he playing” while ignoring the obvious is kind of silly.

Can we all agree that the obsession with rlrl is the dumbest thing Murphy has done all year? If you hit rrrrr and score 8 you don't have to worry about some middle relief guy.

Murphy has a long list of dumb decisions

That said - he will win Manager of the Year
