Team Trade Down always seems to have plenty of ammo every draft given the Packers are rarely picking above 20. This year feels like a classic edition.

I'm going to be attending Round 1. IF the Packers don't get one of those surprising draft day drops for one of those elite guys, I'd be entirely fine if they traded down to acquire another Day 2 pick. Part of me would be equally invested in seeing the massive groans and bios across the Packers fans in attendance - as if hosting the draft precludes the team from making the most sound decision for the football roster. I would laugh heartily with joy.😅

I've been doing quick and dirty mocks using an online draft simulator (where I pick for all teams, not just Green Bay) and really haven't found many good trade up/trade down scenarios with the way the board sits.

There appear to be so many quality CB and DL options in the late first round that there doesn't seem to be any point in trading up.  Maybe if CB-Will Johnson slips to #13, I think he would be worth moving up to get, but I don't see him getting past San Francisco at #11.

As far as other teams coveting #23.  I think the upper tier of WRs are gone in the top 20 (that includes Egbuka and Golden).  Again, there are just so much DL and CB talent...not really worth it for another team to trade up to #23.  Probably the best scenario is if the offensive tackles, Campbell, Banks, Simmons and Membou all go in the top 20...pretty decent chance that happens...that maybe the Chiefs feel they need to go OT first and deal up to pick Conerly.  The dream scenario is that the Raiders or Jets get all QB stupid and decide to trade the house to move up and pick Dart because I think those team miss out on Ward and Sanders.  But if that happens, I'd guess the trade partner would be Pittsburgh at #21.

Zierlein has posted Jack Nelson's grade.  Currently late fifth round that will get pushed down into the 6th once all players are added.  Quite insulting that he has Logan Brown graded just a shade higher.

So far he has grades up for 229 players.  #223 is Graham Mertz.  Logan Brown should be right down there with Mertz.

The problem with the 20-50 range being very flat is few people are motivated to move up.  The best chance would be some team going after a QB (Ward, Sanders) in the late first round.

Depending on how Wohler does in testing (i.e. not incredibly slow), I'll happily take him in the 7th round.  He just strikes me as a great football player that is more than the "sum of the parts" type.  Maybe not the best individual or athletic safety, but one that makes everyone around him better.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Goodness gracious:

I take back everything I said earlier😅

I didn't think he looked 290 pounds on those highlight videos and sure enough, weighed in at 267 pound here.  RAS is a pile of crap IMO.  Go back to the previous page and you'll see a post about how a football-nut friend told me that he can really run but he doesn't look that agile.  This RAS number is totally built on how he runs and how he jumps.  20 yard shuttle, he didn't do it.  3-cone drill, he didn't do it.  How can they come up with an "athletic" score with zero agility data?

Just glancing through the numbers, I'd probably say Georgia DE-Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins probably had the best day.  I don't think he was a real standout at Georgia though.  Backup most of his career (admittedly, there is elite competition when trying to get off that bench), did start 10 games this past season...career 37.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.  He appeared to be a fifth rounder heading into today, I have to wonder if this will move him up into round three?

But overall, I thought it was a pretty disappointing day with the amount of guys who did nothing, or skipped critical parts of the workouts.  Looks like nobody wants to do the 3-cone anymore.  I can understand some of the top guys...but a guy like Mike Green...you'd think the MAC guys would want to step up to show what they can do (Toledo's Darius Alexander stepped up, did everything, and looks like one of the days winners).  Really would have liked to see Kenneth Grant do everything as that guy appears to be a really good athlete for his size...he did nothing.  JT Tuimoloau, a guy who played really well down the stretch and was getting some real positive reviews...he did nothing.  Lots of "doing nothing" today.

10.   Chicago Bears – Kelvin Banks Jr./OT/Texas

I don't believe the Bears are going to keep this pick.  I would put this at a very high possibility that the Bears trade out of the #10 pick.  From the rumors I have seen they are going to address the OL through FA and they may trade the pick for more picks or for Myles Garrett.  The Bears keep on getting thrown out there as one of the more likely destination for him.  Though the price may get to high for the Bears liking as it looks like the Bills and Eagles are willing to give up a lot to get him.  The Browns are also reluctant to trade him and haven't had any conversations with any team on a possible trade.

Still I think the Bears trade out of #10 to try and get a few more picks in the second or third round.

First round cornerback candidates for the Packers...Shavon Revel, Benjamin Morrison, Azareye'h Thomas...all did nothing the the combine today.  Slow zone corner Jahdae Barron ran the 40 in 4.40 but has really short arms (29 5/8) and his vertical and broad jump were just sort of average. Trey Amos,,,not great, not poor, just sort of average across the whole board.

But overall, I thought this cornerback class showed really well in the late to middle rounds, great news for the Packers who may be looking at drafting more than one.  Maxwell Hairston has been floating in that late second/round three area and he ran a 4.30 40 time, 39.5" vertical jump and 10"9' broad jump...all excellent numbers.  Jacob Parrish is on the small side (5-9 3/4), but posted a 4.36 40 time, 37.5" vertical jump and 10'9" board jump.  Again, hardly anybody did the short shuttle and 3-cone drill, so very little can be said about agility numbers.  One guy that went out there and did it all and lit it up was Darien Porter.  This was expected as he was a top track athlete in high school and he was expected to test very well.  6-2 7/8, 195 pounds, 4.30 40 time, 36.5" vertical, 9'8" broad jump, 4.04 20 yard shuttle, 6.71 3-cone drill.  Problem is he's a pure athlete.  Went to Iowa State as a wide receiver, switched to the defense and only started a total of 7 games (all this year) in 3 years as a defensive back.  Even with those eye-popping numbers, I think he's stuck in round three based on the football resume.  Some other really good performances that I just don't have time to get to.  Could be a nice, deep class of cornerbacks.

As far as the safeties, Nick Emmanwori was expected to be great and he was.  6-3 1/8, 220 pound, 4.40 40 time, 43" vertical, 11'6" broad jump.  He appears to be solidly in round one now.  Hunter Wohler ran a 4.63 40-time, which ended up being the worst 40 time among the safeties.  He did do the short shuttle (4.25) and 3-cone drill (6.72), and both of those are very good numbers.

No jaw-dropping performances from the tight ends...Terrance Ferguson probably had the best day.  Jalin Conyers looked to be a 7th rounder/undrafted type, but he did really well in the short shuttle and 3-cone and may have improved his outlook by a couple rounds.  I don't see anybody listing TE as a need for the Packers, but with Luke Musgrave getting hurt again (just like when he was in college...always hurt), I wouldn't rule out the Packers taking one.  No problem at all with Kraft, but they don't see to have a whole lot behind him.

Not to mention, despite what others here have opined, in Musgrave I consistently see a player who lacks fluidity in his routes. He is fast, sure, but I continue to believe he just may not be that great of a football player. I sincerely hope I am wrong. But, after two years, I don't see it. And, for two years, as you point out, he has gone through long stretches of no availability.  Like highly questionable post-season O-Line shuffles the Packers do seem enamored with holding on to limited oft-injured TE's. I present you one TE Tyler Davis, your honor. At least with Musgrave he has youth. I personally distinctly see a need for adding another TE prospect into their current mix if indeed they actually are walking the 'iron sharpens iron' mindset. I reallllllly wanted Warren but that is a pipe dream. In the end, I am just extremely grateful they have Kraft. He's a complete stud.

Is TE a major need? No. Hard to find another player as impactful as Kraft. Would it be a luxury to add top end depth to the TE room? Absolutely. And a luxury I'd love to see as a fan.

I think my Day 2 Guy is Terrance Ferguson out of Oregon. That's a guy I'd love to add to the TE mix in GB.

I think you'll appreciate this.

Shemar Stewart's draft stock

The Olympian workout of Shemar Stewart has a lot of people believing he will end up in the top half of Round 1. Yet why was someone so athletically superior to everyone else on the college field only able to produce 1.5 sacks last season? Teams I’ve spoken with and people close to the Texas A&M program tell me that Stewart is a straight-line athlete who cannot change direction. Some told me his inability to bend off the edge resulted in a lot of missed sacks and lost opportunities when he beat opposing offensive tackles time and time again.

My initial thought after hearing this was Taylor Mays, the athletically gifted safety from USC who himself turned in an Olympic-type workout during the 2010 NFL combine and was selected in the second round of the draft that year by the San Francisco 49ers. Mays had an uninspired NFL career based on the expectations of his athleticism. When I posed this comparison to a league source, he hit me back with one that was much more similar: Vernon Gholston, the sixth pick of the 2008 draft by the New York Jets who amounted to little in the NFL.

Texas A&M's scheme was focused on run-stopping.  That's the biggest reason why he and the other two A&M DL (Scourton, Turner) all didn't have any eye-popping pass rush stats.  Scourton had a noticeable dip in pass rush stats from his prior year at Purdue.

Texas A&M had Scourton listed at 285 pounds, and he weighted in at 257 at the combine.  And Scourton did nothing at the combine, so he wasn't playing the somewhat common game of "drop weight for better workout numbers at Indy and then gain weight for the pro day where I can sit out since I already did the testing."

Scourton did have 5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss in his 1 year at Texas A&M,  Not jaw-dropping, but solid,  Certainly better than the 4.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss that Stewart posted in 3 years.

Zierlein at nfl.com just posted a new mock and there is some crazy stuff in it.

#4 - Patriots - OT-Armand Membou/Missouri

He could be the best tackle in this draft, but still a bit odd to see a right tackle as a top 5 pick.  Last year the Titans took right tackle JC Latham at #7 and immediately put him at left tackle, I would think the same thing would probably happen here.

#9 - Saints - EDGE-Shemar Stewart/Texas A&M

I don't think Packer fans have much to dwell on anymore with Stewart.  He will go well above #23.

#14 - Colts - OG-Tyler Booker/Alabama

IMO he's a very late first rounder or second rounder.  He had been rising but I thought a terrible combine performance would knock him back down where he belongs.  #14 seems really high.

#23 - Packers - CB-Jahdae Barron/Texas

I wouldn't be surprised.  May not seem like an ideal scheme fit, but when guys run a 4.39, NFL coaches (all with big egos) figure they can make anything out fast guys.

#25 - Cardinals (following trade) - WR-Luther Burden III/Missouri

I've had the Packers top two needs as CB and DE, but would take Burden at #23 if this is how the draft fell.  Only minor concern was that Missouri listed him at 5-11. which generally means the guy is really 5-9 1/2.  But Burden measured/weighed in at 6-0 (on the nose) and 206 pounds.  Good enough size, great play speed and quickness, plus hands and dynamic run-after-the-catch ability.  IMO an easy, no-brainer pick.

#29 - Browns - QB-Shedeur Sanders/Colorado

OUCH!

Only player that didn't make round one that is surprising is Ohio State WR-Emeka Egbuka.  I still think that the big four receivers - McMillan, Burden, Golden, Egbuka - will all be off the board by the time the Packers pick.  Time will tell though, only takes 1 free agent signing to push a player down the board a few spots.

I saw Zierlein talking about Sanders on NFL network this morning. He said he thinks in a weak Qb year everyone just mocks him to QB needy teams and compared him to Malik Willis who was also mocked high in a weak QB year but dropped.

I would be shocked if the Packers picked a short WR in 1st round. They already have Reed and prefer bigger guys outside in their offense.

Georgia Tech Pro Day:

Quote

Defensive tackle Andre Biggers, who stood out during Shrine Bowl practices, is one of those players expected to get selected next month, and he performed well.

The 320-pound lineman hit 9-foot-5 in the broad jump and completed 22 reps on the bench with arms that measured 34 7/8 inches at the combine. He looked smooth and athletic during drills, and teams believe he comes with scheme versatility and the potential to line up on the nose or as a five-technique.

Biggers met extensively with the Arizona Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills.

Future potential Tshirt: My NT is Biggers than yours!

I imagine, come draft day, it will be 'The Biggers they are, the harder they fall.'. I still don't see him getting picked beyond the 7th or UDFA range but what do I know? My specialty is obscure DSL and ACL'ers.😅

Sometimes, you just need a name! ...and be 6'5" and 320lbs.

Oddly scouting reports have him fitting best as a 3-4 DE since he doesn't anchor well as an NT.
