I think that most if not all of the 1st/2nd round projected players they bring in for official visits are backup plans so that they don't get caught with their pants down if the guys who they really want in those rounds aren't available.  I think that after the first round there is a big dropoff in DT talent.  I would consider Tyleik Williams at #54 but I would not move up from #54 to take him.  My guess is that he's a backup plan if they get skunked out of Harmon/Nolen in the 1st.

I read that they've only drafted something like 2 of the 26 players they've brought in who ended up getting selected in the first round.  One of them was Love who was a virtual visit in 2020 when the combine and pro days got shut down by COVID, so I'm not sure if that really counts.  Wyatt is the only player they've drafted who they have physically brought to Green Bay on an official visit and then drafted in the first round.

Fun fact - Devonte Wyatt has 4.5 more sacks than any other DT taken in the entire 2022 draft.  In fact, between the entire 2022 and 2021 drafts, the only DTs with more sacks than Wyatt (12) are Christian Barmore (13.5) and Osa Odighizuwa (13.5) and both were a part of the 2021 draft.

I thought it was Quay, but then Christian Watson...who was basically a 1st rd pick but the Vikings were just smart enough to not cave when we wanted #32 for our 2nds and we got 34.

But mostly it seems like they're later rd picks.

JJ Watt was also one of my past pipe dreams, but given his late career injuries, it was a happy miss (unfortunately for him).  Now if we had drafted him...

Reading about Kenneth Grant today and am intrigued.  Really low bench press scores might limit his impact initially, but that will be improved.  Otherwise, he sounds like Gilbert Brown that moves like early career Kenny Clark.

I love Grant. If he can add a little bit as a pass rusher, there's...a LITTLE bit of Dexter Lawrence in there.

And moving from a 34 to a 43 could help him unlock it.

But, if nothing else, he's very good vs the run and can move men in the pocket and that makes it easier for the Edges to get home.

I think the best tape of the three, Harmon, Nolen and Grant is Grant, but it's a bit less consistent and he also has a guy who should be a top 10 pick who played next to him.

Harmon is the best effort player and I think it's really unlikely he's a bust. Not sure the ceiling, but I don't know just how good he can be.

Nolen is similar to Wyatt in my opinion. More stout.

I've updated my top prospects spreadsheet over the last 48 hours.

I wanted to keep including Brugler rankings (The Athletic), but nobody is spilling the beans on his update and I refuse to do business with The Athletic after they censored McGinn a few years ago.  So since Brugler's list was so old (pre-combine), his data got dropped altogether.  I replaced his data with Scout INC/ESPN.  It had also been awhile since Trapasso at CBS Sports put out a ranking, so I replaced his with the CBS Sports consensus list.  So this top prospects list is made up from the following...in a list of 150 players, bottom guy gets 1 point and top guy gets 150 points.

Scout INC/ESPN (top 150)

Jeremiah/NFL.com (top 50)

Sikkema/Pro Football Focus (top 150)

Iyer/Sporting News (top 150)

CBS Sports (top 150)

Ourlads (top 35)

Zierlein/NFL.com (top 150 graded players)

Edholm/NFL.com (top 100 players)

Rang/FOX Sports (top 150 players)

I wanted to insert round information in this list, but doing so messes up the formatting (it's a cut-and-paste job from an Excel worksheet), So I'm going to stick that in right here, ahead of the list.

Michigan cornerback Will Johnson had his workout and would not run the 40.  Only numbers that I've seen is that he had a 37 inch vertical jump and a 4.33 short shuttle.  That vertical is about average for a cornerback and the short shuttle number is below average for a cornerback.  There have been reports that he looked "above average" in running positional drills.  McShay has reported that Johnson would not run the 40 because he was running in the high 4.5's in training.

He's going to fall.  I don't think he makes it to #23, but I don't think he's a top 10 pick with this information.  It might even be a stretch to think of him as sitting solidly in the top 16.

NFL.com has a section up called DraftIQ

https://www.nfl.com/draft/iq/

So go to the Packers and then in the middle of the screen there are a couple tabs > click on Front Office Tendencies.

Scroll to the bottom and-

Since 2018, Gutekunst has drafted a league-high 42 players with NGS athleticism scores that are higher than their NGS production scores as the Packers GM.

That's pretty overwhelming.  Gutekunst has drafted 72 players, which putting it in the most simplistic terms, breaks down as drafting 57 "athletes" versus 15 "players."

doesn't surprise me, Guty's drafts have been welming at best.

It's always been odd to me that they market the 'Frozen Tundra' so well but still build their teams like they play in a dome. They seem to make it work though.

Kenneth Grant is a monster on film and there is no question of how good an athlete he is for his size.  But his size is getting to be a concern.  There were reports that at the combine he was talking and saying he was in the process of dropping weight and was going to show up lighter at Michigan's Pro Day and run a 4.8 40.  He showed up at 330 pounds and ran a 5.07 (which is pretty good for someone of that size).  Apparently it turned off a lot of people.  When he first got to Michigan, he was so over-weight that they were initially going to put him in a conditioning program instead of having him practice, but once he did some athletic tests they went ahead and put him on the practice field.

So these guys that are out of shape like this...lots of them play like gangbusters early on, but end up fading pre-maturely and when it happens it happens really fast.  There does appear to be some Gilbert Brown in Kenneth Grant.  People forget about what a good athlete Brown was when he first became a Packer, largely because for most of his career in Green Bay we was over 360 and his athleticism went down the tubes pretty fast.

I'm not dismissing Grant, I would still give him a look and consider him depending on where Green Bay ends up picking and who is available at the time.  But this is the biggest negative with Grant.  IMO he may be top 10 if you just look at the film and his athleticism....there is a reason why pretty much everyone is putting him in the late round one area.

Walter Nolen reminds me a lot of Rashan Gary in that both guys have been round one projections since they were sophomores in high school.  And despite all the accolades, I'm not sure if Nolen lived up to that reputation, and I don't know if Gary has been all he could be and we are now finished with year #6 of his pro career.  I will say this about Nolen, he seems like an ideal fit as a 3-technique in Hafley's defense.  IMO, he'd be a better pick for the Packers than Harmon for that reason.  Harmon just has that look of a 3-4 DE to me.

That's fair. I like Grant a bit more, and I think the one thing you could always count on with Gary was effort. He made Hustle plays. That's a bit in question with Nolen. As for Harmon...I generally think if you're worthy of a 1st rd pick as a 3-4 DE, you fit as a 4-3 DT, either a 1 or a 3. Unless you're saying he's more of a effort player who doesn't have the natural pass rushing ability, but he's more of a run defender and for that reason a better fit as a 3-4 end.

This class is harder to get a read on than even just last year. The CBs all tested...so many of these CBs chose not to. Mitchell last year was a stud, he fell. I think Johnson would be the best case scenario at hitting on a immediate impact player at a position of need.

I still keep seeing people like Brugler suggesting the Packers may g back to OL. That'd make me think Simmons and a Walker trade eventually.

Revel is 24, coming off of a serious injury that he hasn't done any athletic testing for, and didn't play in a Power 5 conference.

I would be extremely surprised if he goes in the first round.  I'll be surprised if he even goes in the 2nd.

More stout.

Yes, he played next to a probable top 10 pick, who was most likely double teamed a lot, which makes me wonder why Grant's #'s weren't better than they were. I also watched videos of Grant, and nothing really impressed me very much. I think he'll end up an average rotational player.
