After the drubbing they gave the Brewers we should consider looking into the new style bat also.

So are the Yankee bats 2.61 inches in diameter per the rule? If they are, seems to mean "normal" bats are less than 2.61 inches in diameter. Why would a bat not use the full 2.61?? Seems obvious to make contact area as big as possible. IDK, seems fishy.

This is so bizarre you're not good enough to barrel up the ball so they make a bat to barrel up jam shots

Well they went to the world series last year so if that is someone's definition of 'not good enough' .. then what are we?

Any edge you can get in a high steaks billion dollar league.  If they are as effective as it looks so far, the whole league will be using them before the all star break.

Wow the Yankees went to the world series with a 315 million dollar payroll good for them 😂 almost pathetic not winning one since 2009 considering all the money they spend

I think that the bats are 2.61 inches farther down the barrel. So they get fatter, sooner.

Correct, so you can better, "barrel up" the inside pitches.

Finally a technological innovation that favors the hitters.

More barrel hits especially from smaller players is good for the game IMO, but they may need to deaden the ball a bit in response.

That's probably the case but the comparison photos in the story they sure look bigger.

I have no idea, just guessing from what I read.

I don't know if it's like Mars Blackmon and the "It's the shoes!" but I think if the Brewers did not take a look at using these bats, that's a problem.

I don't think the Brewers' pitching was good at all, but this was ridiculous and unwatchable. 36 runs, 15 homers in 24 innings. I'll go watch slo-pitch instead.

The Rockies are thinking, "at least our pitching isn't THIS bad."

I mean, isnt the adjustment to just pitch to the outer half of the strike zone and watch them splinter these bats or not get nearly the loud contact with the weaker ends of these bats out over the plate?  Then when the players creep in on the plate you can bust them inside on the hands where they won't be able to barrel the ball either?

The story is the putrid start of the season on the Brewers' staff - it's not just the bats.

Wouldn't the bat be heavier?  What's the weight of normal to this style?

That’s what I was wondering

no, it's balance is just different - instead of the end of the bat having most of the weight the trademark area has it, and then the bat tapers back narrower at the end.

The new torpedo bats are from my understanding: Where they moved the mass into the label (middle or sweet spot) of the bat instead of the end and will actually give you more bat speed with a heavier bat. “The concept makes so much sense. I know I'm bought in,” Volpe said.

Bellinger said he senses the bats are more balanced from end to end.

“The benefit for me is, I like the weight distribution,” Bellinger said. “Personally, the weight is closer to my hands, so I feel as if it’s lighter in a way. For me, that was the biggest benefit. Obviously, the bigger the sweet spot, the bigger the margin for error.”

It only bothers me that they are called "torpedo" bats, and torpedos have the shape of softball bats or wiffle ball bats which is the exact opposite of the shape of these bats.

I think they should be called big bopper bats.

They should just call them bowling pins...that's pretty much what they are.

I still think the combination of a comically short porch at Yankee Stadium and atrocious Brewer pitching are far more to blame than a weirdly shaped bat for all the HRs they hit over the weekend.  Particularly since Judge isn't using one of these bats.  I still say the reasonably simple antidote for these bats designed to do more damage when hitters get a little jammed is to pitch these hitters outside with velocity.
