Boston and offer them Hoskins

Why and for who?

We already don't have a whole lot of power in the lineup. Hoskins has been...pretty good this year. Hew as sitting at like .300/.400 about 4 games ago.

I still think this team is going to be competitive and they could get a WHOLE lot better with just a couple pitchers coming back+a trade.

I don't see Hoskins having a ton of value in terms of prospects...or MLB ready players. It's just a salary dump when we're basically over 100M in team payroll. Once you get Chourio and Yelich starting to hit a little better/more consistently, I think the lineup will look good. Get Ashby, Woodruff and maybe Civale or Hall back and I think the Brewers will get hot and be right in the race all year long.

Too early to be selling

Amen to that only 20% of the way through the MLB season.  We could still have Devin Williams who surrendered 3 for the Yankees last night which lead to San Diego's 8th inning comeback win.

The Yankee Closer Devin Williams has allowed 15 runs in 11.2 innings this season. WOW!

As Markus Johnson always says: "Time to chop wood and carry water."

We face only 2 teams with above .500 records over the next 5 weeks. "Time to chop wood and carry water."

I'm not against selling some guys early if it is at a premium. If Boston wants to give us a couple really interesting guys for Hoskins I would be 100% interested. Also would open the door to some really fun EMJ playing time.

Rhys Hoskins is barely above replacement level and is guaranteed 22 million dollars.

On what planet would any team give “a couple of interesting guys for him”?

A more likely scenario would be Boston demanding additional Milwaukee prospects just for taking on Hoskins’ contract.

Rhys would have to play a lot better to have any trade value at his price and even then the Brewers probably would need to kick in cash or minor league talent to move him (See JBJ).

LOL come on. Hoskins has been solid if not good this year, with an OPS of .799. He was decidedly not great last year, but still put up an OPS of .722, along with 26 HRs.

JBJ had an abysmal OPS of .497 in his time with the Brewers.

The two are not comparable.

Hoskins is probably worth his salary so you are not getting much back but you don't have to include anything if you want to move him.  Now it would be better for the Brewers if they paid his salary and got talent back but my guess is the owners would prefer a bonus payout instead.

LOL, you need to read more carefully.

I mentioned JBJ not to compare his production to Hoskins. Rather to support the premise that underachieving players with large guarantees are not players teams really give up talent for.

On the contrary it is the team trading away the underachieving player who often needs to include talent in order for the acquiring team to absorb the contract.  Which is what the Brewers did (David Hamilton & Alex Binelas) to move JBJ and the 18 million left on his contract in December of ‘21

Hoskins has a bWAR of 0.3 so far this year. That type of production can be had for much less than what Hoskins is guaranteed. Thus, nobody is giving the Brewers anything of value for Hoskins  unless he seriously ups his play. This would be especially so for a luxury tax payer like Boston.

I'm seeing he is at 0.6 bWAR, so he must've had quite a weekend! 😂

But that puts him around 2.5 bWAR on the season, so he is certainly earning his $18M (or right on the $22M if you want to add in next years $4M to decline the option).  People aren't going to be knocking down our door for him, but if someone has a 1B hole, we should expect a positive return and nothing close to a JBJ situation.

Not to mention that deals at the deadline (where options are scarce) are much different than the offseason when JBJ was traded.

Hey Brewer Fans Would you trade?  Bellinger has a .256 batting average, 9 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 31 runs scored.

Hoskins has a .266 batting average, 9 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 21 runs scored?

I know you would because you hate Hoskins who I have personally been defending for 2 years.

No, but before this season we probably would have.   Hoskins is having an all star year though and is owed less money which is key too.

The only legitimate reason you wouldn’t do this trade is if you think Bellinger will opt-in to his contract next year and don’t want to pay him $25M. Otherwise it’s giving up an equally productive hitter for a guy who is better defensively and on the bases
