Craig Counsell took the coaches with him bcz more money over there plus 1st base coach.

A simple case of Money talks and BS walks.

Were the Cubs beat up last year?  We just don't have the horses this year and having all these injuries isn't helping.

How does this have anything to do with my post? Plenty of people complained about the offense and the coaches last year, especially when Rhys and Jackson weren't hitting.

This team desperately needs a vibe infusion. None of these guys look like they are having fun. Not saying they should fire Murphy, but maybe you know Murph could try something new instead of the ripping his team apart to the media and all the tough love.

I agree with this. Plus, talent infusion can't hurt. Do not want to give up big pieces to get it, though.

How about pitching?

Yeah, it's been worse this year. Pitching coach is still here, isn't he? It happens.

This is one area where we miss Willy.

Quintin Berry is one.

It's a lot easier to be chatty and look like you're having fun when your team wins a bunch. I think the team looks down because they are playing a lot worse than they expected.

Yeah, this is just a weird, weird, transitional year. Last year, I really felt like we were going to be way better than people thought. This year, I knew we had a lot of guys back, but it just seemed different somehow. Maybe it was just losing Willy. I don't know. Vibes just off.

A lot of it, for me, is that all of our guys feel the same. Like, we have a team largely full of decent players with a couple of trouble spots. If Yelich and Contreras and Chourio aren't absolutely blasting, we're not going to score runs.

On the pitching side, we need to beat our FIP numbers. We've got a rotation full of #3-4 starters (you could argue Freddy is a little better than that), so the bullpen has to be great, and we have to steal outs defensively. None of that is happening right now, so what you get is a team that really struggles to rip off winning streaks.

Maybe the offense will heat up, and something will click defensively and on the bases. It's a massively long season. One big win streak changes everything. But, right now, this is just a really average baseball team. And they are average. Average just feels bad because of how good we've been most of this decade.

Yes.  I'm having a devil of a time with this stupid phone.  lol

It’s probably not the stupid phone, but this stupid site.

It is so bloated with ads and sluggish that it often takes me several minutes to get it to complete a two sentence post.

Yep, it's easy to bash the offense, right now it's pretty bash-able. But I think people forget how many games in the last year or three we won w/o much offense but stealing those outs defensively. It's glaring how that side of the ball has gone from often spectacular to intermittent, at times mediocre, and at times downright lousy. The liberties Cleveland took on the bases tonite was hard to watch. And I mentioned the other day how we're down to our 3rd CF. Chourio is still incredibly young, he's going to get better. But Perkins or Mitchell make that catch in the 4th w/o much issue. And where they're at right now, they aren't getting off the mat w/a three run deficit. So you're left with Levering & Rottino trying to make Kolby Allard sound like the second coming of Tom Glavine.

I asked this earlier in this thread but noone responded.  Does anyone know when Perkins and/ or Mitchell will return?

Didn’t you hear? Mitchell reached for a potato chip awkwardly and his torso exploded. They’re still looking for his oblique

Neither one has started playing in any kind of minor league rehab games as of yet so probably still a ways off.

If I counted right Perkins is eligible to come off the 60 Day IL around May 26th so maybe early June for him?

I feel bad for him.  He's a nice player but awfully injury prone.  :-(
