It’s possible I’m naive but I don’t remember seeing such a low FIP and high ERA like Brown.

3rd largest in MLB (min. 50 innings) this season behind Sandy Alcantara (7.14 ERA, 4.71 FIP) and German Marquez (6.62 ERA, 4.19 FIP).

Brown has had bad luck but his xERA is pretty much halfway between his ERA and FIP sitting at 4.48. He has a really good K:BB ratio but when he gives up contact it's pretty rough. His xwOBA on contact against is 7th percentile in MLB

Yeah I've watched a few of his starts and it's been really feast or famine. You'll get six/seven shutout and total dominance, or he'll leave offerings over the heart of the plate and get absolutely crushed.

He's almost entirely fastball/curveball, and the curve lives quite often out of the zone. If you can spit on it, the fastball is definitely something that's damageable

In baseball, I never like to put too much stock in any one game or series.

That said, this feels like a really important set at Wrigley.

Cannot get swept. But really need to take at least 2 of 3.

A well-stocked bullpen and an emphasis on bunting could do the trick in sloppy conditions.

Yes I seen that but weather channel says only 35% chance of rain but 85 degrees until about 7pm then temp drops.

Wind is blowing out at Wrigley. Doesn't feel great considering Patrick is one of the most extreme flyball pitchers in MLB.

New weather forecast pushed the heavy rain back to 9pm.

The Cubs have won three of their previous four games and hold a 5.5-game lead over the Brewers in the NL Central. Although Brown has struggled in his second season, going 3-5 with a 5.71 ERA, the Brewers won 10-0 in Brown’s start against Milwaukee this year. Brown recorded four strikeouts while allowing four hits against the Brewers.

Patrick has lost his last two starts for Milwaukee. This is his first start of his career against the Cubs. The Brewers are 16-19 on the road this season. This is Milwaukee’s first game away from home since June 4. The Brewers and the Cubs are both 6-6 in their last 12 games.

The Cubs’ offense has been a machine this season, scoring 5.35 runs per game. They are second in scoring this year in the MLB. The 23-year-old Pete Crow-Armstrong has been a revelation this season. He is seventh in the MLB in home runs (18), while having the fifth most RBIs (57).

Just seen the pushed the heavy rain back to 1 am now. I swear weather forecasts were better 30 years ago.

Smells like the type of game where you try to hang on for five innings tied or at worst down a run or so, then bank on your pretty well-rested bullpen to outperform theirs.

Maybe Hoskins will earn his money tonight.

80 degrees and sunny is considered impending rain on the North Side.

Tell me about it.  Forecasts seem to change every half hour now.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

I wish Priester was throwing for Milwaukee tonight with the wind blowing out. We need a ground ball pitcher. This could get ugly since the Brewers have little power & the Cubs have a lot.

Brewers will reign tonight on Counsell's cobblers.

Agreed … much more important for Milwaukee since we trail by six in the loss column going in.

A sweep (while darn near impossible) would be a dream come true.
Getting swept (unlikely but possible) would be a living nightmare.

Tons riding on this series.
