My choice would be Otto Lopez from the Marlins. 4.5 years of control. Good defensive metrics for both oaa and drs. Doesn’t strike out a ton. Seems like a brewer to me.

I know the whole point of this exercise is to raise the ceiling of the team but I just want competency.

I think your suggestion is more than reasonable. I think raising the floor for this particular squad could be just as impactful as raising the ceiling.

I hadn't checked this forum in a couple days, and saw Lopez's stat lines, and came over here to suggest him.

I wonder what Miami actually imagines as their competitive window right now. They seem adrift, but slightly less so than the Rockies. Both of those franchises are up against some big spenders (LAD, SFG, SDP, NYM, PHI) at the top of their divisions, so they really have to stack the farm to make a run at it.

Lopez for Pratt + Wichrowski + another 40FV prospect?

Off the cuff...

Brewers receive: SS Jacob Wilson

A's Receive:  SS Cooper Pratt,  P Craig Yoho, IF Andruw Monasterio

The A's aren't going to trade Wilson but if they did, they would need substantially more from the Brewers to make it happen.

That price is was to high. Lopez is having a nice year and was OK last year but he was an outright waivers claim in 2023. Lopez for Wichrowski and that 40 FV prospect (say Jadher Arienamo) would likely be more than enough and I am not a huge fan of that.

That's not even close to enough for 4.5 years of Otto Lopez. Miami laughs you off the phone if you try to get him for two back half Top 30 prospects.

I’m fairly convinced that if we are to upgrade SS during this season, it’s going to have to include one of Made, Pena, Pratt, or Quero.

Do some here not see Made at #7 and certainly headed to top 3 with more experience?

I don't want Otto. Another 5-10 hitter who's 26, may have 0 options and doesnt improve the power outage the team has.

Neto is 24 and having another 24 or more HR season. Also has the 4.5 if not 5 years team control.  Replaces the weakness of SS hitting and slg.  If you somehow kept Ortiz, he's a better defensive replacement than Monestario. Both at SS and 3b.

There is no guarantee of anything, even with a prospect as talented as Made.

He started out hot living up to the hype...

0404 to 0529 (184 PA)
288/402/438 (143 wRC+)
15.2 BB% | 20.1 K%

But since last homering on May 29th it has been a pretty steady decline in his performance...

0530 to 0620 (74 PA)
266/365/391 (119 wRC+)
13.5 BB% | 14.9 K%

0621 to 0709 (68 PA)
220/324/288 (83 wRC+)
13.2 BB% | 27.9 K%

As one of the youngest players in the Carolina League facing full season ball and American Culture for the first time, none of this is surprising or really all that discouraging even.

I have faith that Jesus will figure it all out in due time, but there is no certainty.

Or Misiorowski, Henderson, Myers, Patrick, Gasser, Ashby, Hall, Crow, Hardin, et. al...

I agree with you, but I don't think it's out of the question, nor should it be summarily dismissed in the trade forum.

Why wouldn't the Angels consider trading Neto, or the A's consider trading Wilson for The Miz, or a collection of prospects including Made or Pratt? Why wouldn't the Brewers consider acquiring those [nearly] proven MLB infielders with team control?

If the Brewers are worried about their gloves at SS, just put them at third. In this league, their bats are good enough for 3rd base. Heck, Bregman has made a lot of money being a "lighter" hitter at 3rd rather than a good hitting, below-average defensive shortstop.

I don't think the Angels will trade Neto because they don't operate like other MLB orgs. As much as the Rockies are on an island (or an icy mountaintop maybe) of their own when it comes to sheer incompetence, the Angels are in their own equally remote place (the clouds perhaps? certainly not the Heavens) when it comes to deluding themselves into thinking they are contenders when they can't even win 81 games.

I don't think the A's will trade Wilson because they view him as a foundational piece of the team they are hoping to build for Vegas. Trading him now, even for someone as talented as Made would be a signal they don't think they can be ready to compete by moving date and are already kicking the can further down the road just as their position player core (Wilson, Rooker, Soderstrom, Kurtz, Butler, Langeliers) is starting to come together.

I don't think the Nationals will trade Abrams for similar reasons. They didn't just fire their GM and manager to tell the fans, "hey we're starting another half decade rebuild", they fired them because they think Abrams, Wood, Gore, Dylan Crews, Brady House, etc are the start of their next core and they want fresh eyes to try and start building around them so it doesn't turn into a lost decade for the franchise.

I agree with everything you wrote --- but you don't think the A's would consider a Wilson for Misiorowski trade?

Misio definitely fits the A’s needs and timeline.

I don’t think the Brewers would really consider it though because as good as Wilson is he’s more of a high floor guy.

The Brewers have proven pretty adept at producing that kind of player, so they need to hang on to as many of their ceiling guys as they can.

Statcast doesn't give a good look on Wilson.  It is glaring how good Wilson is at making contact with 90% contact swinging in the zone. I don't think I've ever seen it above 90.

That contact is at 85.3 avg exit velo. Another never seen before of his 10HR, only Oak has the expected 10. Every other stadium had lower expected HRs with Pitt at 4 and Texas at 5 the two lowest. Milw at 8.  Has 1 batted ball opposite field that reached warning track. Strictly pull hitter, Shift would eat him up.  Performance at the moment another Joey Ortiz on his rookie season.  Huge pass because the upside isn't there.

FanGraphs started rolling out their annual Trade Value series today and three shortstops mentioned in this post - Jacob Wilson (#48), CJ Abrams (#47), and Zach Neto (#43) - all landed in close proximity on the first installment.

Surprised they were all that low but the fact none of them have good gloves probably pushes them down a bit.

Saw we were linked to Xavier Edwards of the Marlins as well.

Great splits vs RHP, no power, gets on base, steals bases.

if anyone would value that, it’s us.

If we can move Turang to SS vs RHP, I think it makes sense.

If the Brewers would even remotely consider that, I'd stop being a fan, immediately.
