Another senior pick, Owens was nails in the CWS this season.

Some command issues with 40 walks in 90.2 innings but also 100 strikeouts.

Can't find a ton of data but seems like a real warrior personality. I'm seeing a trend in this draft on that front

Technically not another this year. Owens was the only college senior the Brewers drafted in rounds 1-10. Interesting first 10 rounds for the Brewers. A couple college bats in the middle rounds and only one college senior.

Hey all you baseball nerds out there, who are the difficult to sign high schoolers that are still available? Seems like we got some extra money to spend.

We won’t sign them. It’s gonna be nobodies that sign for 400k-600k. Look at last years draft, something like that.

We have so much depth built up that it doesn’t make sense to add even more late round college players. They’d take up innings and PAs from the kids already in A and A+ and the upside is minimal.

This is where we build up our freshman team of no names who would have turned into top 5 round picks had they made it to college.

Do we think the Brewers saved any money in rounds 4-10?

I'm not totally sure, I'd suggest we may be slightly under in those but that's just a guess given the limited HS picks involved. I'd imagine a substantial amount remaining , potentially in the $1.2m-$1.5m range for rounds 11-20 but I could be wrong.

The pick of Flores may be a little over, but then again there's a lot of college signees there so we possibly would be under in the aggregate

We also have the 5% buffer allowing an additional $650k or so for the Crew to spend at this point.

Should see some fascinating picks!

The thing is with the college picks outside of Owens they were all juniors (or sophomores) so I'm not sure they will be really low bonus guys. I'm sure they will mostly be underslot but not sure it will be enough to counteract Flores who I imagine will be a bit over slot.

We could go like last year and draft like 7/8 unknown HS guys and hope to sign 5 or we could draft a couple bigger name guys and hope to draft 1 or 2. The DSL teams don't seem great this year so I would prefer to draft and sign as many HS players as possible. Hopefully a couple position players in that group.

What's the deal with Jack Bauer? Is he unsignable? Team's afraid of the velo spike?

We need our requisite mississippi state pitcher. He would fit the bill nicely.

Yeah I was thinking the same, I think the aggregate may put us slightly under slot overall but it won't be a huge margin at all. The 650k plus the first round savings hopefully leave ~2m or so in extras for these rounds

It's hard to peg how far under slot they are but I guarantee they will take 1 or 2 top 150 players and if they have the money they will throw $1.5m+ at them to try to get a sign. Can't guarantee they sign though. I've seen them win enough times to hope on it.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

I wonder how much communication is done on draft day with these players or are negotiations set in stone?

If a kid slides, do you call him up and offer a number lower than his original demand to see if he'll take it? There doesn't seem to be a lot of time to do things like that.

A game named "Jack Bauer" needs to be drafted on principle alone.

Typically the Brewers have a level of confidence in their players signing in rounds 11-13 although sometimes it falls through (Riggio) similar to the case with Levonas last year.  Sometimes those players are in the $150K range and sometimes they are the "big swings".  Usually a couple of picks later are ones that are "backup" plans.  These are needed when some of the higher risk picks don't come through earlier.

Usually quite a bit. That's exactly what happened with Pratt, who thought he wasn't getting drafted and the Brewers called to offer him a sum and said if they took him in the 6th, would he sign.

So yeah they usually have some agreement or idea of signing bonuses in place before selections, although the Levonas one last year they knew was going to be a tough sign and decided to try anyway

With the first dozen picks, I don't see an obvious big overslot pick, so the Brewers may have close to $2 million to spend still above the $150K's in the next ten picks.

Jared Spencer is off the board

His fastball is pretty dead zone but a high IVB changeup (like Tobias Myers) and perfect gyro slider shape were elite offerings.

Blue Jays have a solid one there

- Wiry build

- High end athleticism

- Potential for more power (not a ton of bat speed by my eye, and quite a long swing) but shows a smooth upward swing from the right side (he is a switch hitter)

- Speedy
